      rust control

I have the entire interior of the Monte out and I want to address some issues under the dash.
There is minor surface rust in a few spots and I want to treat it before I move on with sound deadener.

I was thinking scuff with a scotchbrite pad and then topcoat with a rust convertor.
I'm not doing a 100 point resto and the car will not likely see much wet weather ever again....will this be sufficient?

Check with Eastwood about their rust preventive products.

I recommend KBS Coatings. They have some great products for treating and painting over rust.

Just like you said, knock the rust off, hit it with some converter and then topcoat that with some rattlecan paint to match whatever you want to match. If it will never see any weather doing this will protect it way better then it was from the factory.
One thing we have been using on Bad Ast is the rust and paint stripping discs. These things work very well and leave a perfect surface for primer. Using that may get you to bare metal where you won't need the converter and can just prime and paint. I get mine at Harbor Freight. They go right on the angle grinder and make quick work of it.
