from old school 2 new school

well we did a full rusto on my dads car about uhh 10 years ago its a 1969 chevelle ss, it has a 396bbc with a th400, this we mine and my twin brother first time we restore a car with my father and this car is what made us into the gear heads we are today, since the car was restored he probaly put less then 1500 miles on it. but since he is now retired he has been enjoying it a lot more, ever since we went on a little road trip last year to the south lake tahoe HAN's he wanted a more enjoyable ride so here we are now. got rid of the 15in torq thurst rims and got a set of 18in New Gens with nitto tires, lowered the car with new springs out back and spindles up front. replaced the old kyb shocks for new belstein/hotchkis shocks and replaced the stock rear sway bar with a hellwig adjustable one. next on the list is to order new front springs with a different front spring rate maybe a little stiffer?, hellwig front sway bar, quick ratio gear box, upper and lower tubular A arms, and new rear upper and lower control arms. first pic is what it looked like before.

well got the new front sway bar put on today. big improvement from stock. aslo we are dealing with some wiring issue now. what we thought was a started was not the issue, i think it has to do with the wiring under the dash.

well we ran into a little problem, when we got done installing all the wiring under the dash we went to start the car and a valve spring retainer let loose getting into the motor and messing up everyting to keep a long story short we had to get a new motor... bummer. so a crate 496 should be arriving next week along with the new b&m th400 and other little goodies!! will get some pics posted soon!

      Nice project and great progress.

Double check the pulley alignment on the power steering pump. I used that same March set-up when I had a BBC in my car and when you tighten the belt on the power steering pump it tends to pull the pulley out of alignment. The back of the pump was not supported very well. They may have changed the design by now, but I would still double check it. The last thing you want is for your dad to throw a belt on one of his road trips.

Andrew- the PS pump hits the steering box but march sells a kit to fix that problem, would have been nice to kno this when we ordered it so we could have ordered the kit to fix it at the same time... thanks for the heads up!

got everything back together but didnt make it to HAN parts took longer than we thought to show up and didnt want to rush things, but the car is finally running, BUT we did hit another bump in the road. took the car to a show for the first time since it was put together and the started decided it wanted to catch fire... the wire that connects from the motor to the solenoid completely disintegrated (cheap jegs mini starter). but we put a new starter in and its up and running. took it on a 50mile cruse and had no problems(yet). here are some pics i took after we cleaned the car up(sorry cheap camera) the tail pipe hangs down low car the car had the exhaust put on with the old 15in rims so we had to bend it out of the way just to drive it. but tomorrow its going to the muffler shop to get all redone. 3in all the way out the back with spintech mufflers
