Best sequence

Ok pro-tourers, I'd like to get some of your input. I'm currently planing on the following steps to finish my Camaro in this sequence. Do you agree? If not Why?

1. Metal work. Complete.
2. Fit front sheetmetal. Complete
3. Use old 10 bolt rearend as a roller leaving 2k $ for other priorities at this piont.

Here's where I want to see if you agree.

4. Paint it and install windsheild / back glass.
5. Install interior.
6. Install other glass.
7. Install engine, trans, and 12 bolt rearend.

thats ok but I go 1,2,3, then 4 ,3(only cause you have 2 3's , 5 and then 6. Theres nothing worst than trying to clean over spray off of freshly detailed engine and subframe. Interior before glass cause its easier to install panels and dashes with big gaping holes front and rear.

I agree, do interior before putting in the glass. Other than that looks pretty good.

If I were you I would go 1,2,3 then

- paint the engine compartment and jambs,

- install the engine and trans (so you don't have to worry about scratching the outside, touchups under the hood are not as noticeable)

- Spray Car exterior paint,

- Wire everything (it is way easier when working with a bare shell),

- Interior,

- Glass,

- Trim.

I am sure this is overly simplistic too, reassembling a whole car is more difficult thant just 1,2,3...

oh, and hoepfully you did test fit everything first so you wont have to drill through freshly painted sheetmetal....right?

Kerry, Good input. The car is already in etching primer from the rockers up and the undercarriage & firewall have been painted the color of the car. ( It's listed in New Cars thread under Mike Workman's 69 Camaro ) Fitting the front sheetmetal now. What I like best about this plan is it allows you to keep moving and also doing different parts of the project through to completion. I believe I'm going to:

1 Paint all jams / edges, inner fenders, and core support.
2 Install 10 bolt rerend (to roll around) with DSE springs and KYB shocks.
3 Install booster and rest of brake system
4 Install engine, transmission, fuel tank and ect.
5 Spray car
6 Wiring.
7 Install door glass and qrt. glass
8 Interior.
9 Install new 12 bolt rearend
10 Glass
11 Trim

I'm doing mine like this:
1. Paint(everything)
2. Engine, tranny, drivetrain
3. Interior
4. Glass

Ahh... I remember hanging my front sheetmetal. The sequence went like this:
1) Remove left fender from box.
2) Beer.
3) Loosely hang fender on body.
4) Beer.
5) Install one bolt.
6) Beer.
7) Install more bolts.
8) Beer.
Repeat for other fender (if you can still stand).

The most important thing I have learned before paint is to make sure EVERYTHING is mocked up on your car. This way your not welding or cutting later down the road. Make sure everything bolts up or fits where it is supposed to first. Including interior, exhaust, everything. :icon996:

I guess the only order I would change is putting the glass in before the interior. It is a lot easier to install backwindow and windshield before all the moldings on the interior. Also alot easier to install door glass before putting the door panels on.
When I did my 442 many moons ago I was cruizin around with no interior panels/headliner for a few weeks making sure the door windows didn't have any wind noise coming from them.

Steve....I know what you mean. There is no way you just bolt them on and achieve the right gaps.

That's true Brad. I remember when doing the dis-assembly that I could get to the door glass alot easier with the panels and everything else off and out of the way.
