Love the v40's Matt... but the v48's will always be my favorite! Hate to add another style to your decision but the 48's would give you that timeless trans am series look... if i had the money i'd own them...

and 17s are generally accepted to be the best compromise between increased diameter (and thus decreased sidewall, better tire choice, and better brake options) and increased weight (and thus increased rotating mass). 18s are only an upgrade if your 17s weigh a ton, or if you need them to clear your brakes.

Back in '02 my Camaro was used as a test mule for 15's, 16's, 17's, and a 19/20 combo. At the time the 17's were the best performing, but in the last 10 years tire technology has skyrocketed. There likely is no single bigger performance improvement in the last decade than tires.

The last set of rims on the car were V45 in 17" form. However, tire availability was becoming sketchy in the sizes needed. 18's are far more popular, and their performance significantly better.

There is some tradeoff in the "vintage" department due to the sidewall height.

V45 in 18" x 9.5" x 5.5" x 274/40 on all corners. They are one of the best bang-for-the-buck rims on the market.
