Going to 17's...which wheels?

Hey guys...well just got my new Detroit Speed suspension in with 2 inch drop...and deciding on replacing my 15 inch Zwheels with some new 17's..for some autocross duty..... :bowtie: .....i torn between the wheel vintage works V40/V45..and Torque Thrust II chrome.......what yaw think?...

I've run VWW V-40's and have had great luck with them. I really think you will have way more choices on back spacing with the VWW also. The VWW wheels are definitely American made too! Car looks great by the way.

The V45 looks tuff. That's my vote.

I went with the Vintage wheels, fit the old school sleeper look I was going for. Painted the spokes dark gray.

I'm curious as to why 17 and not 18, especially if its for autocrossing?
My Chevelle has 17s, I want 18s but can't justify the upgrade (too many other projects going right now).

The VWW's. The TTII's are played out for me. Not a bad looking wheel, just far too common.

and 17s are generally accepted to be the best compromise between increased diameter (and thus decreased sidewall, better tire choice, and better brake options) and increased weight (and thus increased rotating mass). 18s are only an upgrade if your 17s weigh a ton, or if you need them to clear your brakes.

Definitely VWWs, both the 40 and 45 look equally cool in picture, I would probably lean toward the 40 myself.

17x9 Cast aluminum with the polished lip to mimic the trim ring on the stocker.
plus they use the stock centercap

I have a 71 Camaro and I just replaced Eagle 211's (TT2 copy) with VWW V45's. I think the V45's give it more of an "I can kick your ass" look than the blingy TT2's. Got them from Driverz Inc by the way. Great guys to deal with.

My reason for going with the V45 was I wanted to keep mine fairly stock looking and I think that's the wheel the designers of the original 70 Z had in mind. The steel wheel that you have is what you got after the accountants got ahold of it.

I prefer, and would strongly recommend 17s for autocrossing simply because the tires are cheaper, and when you autocross a lot, tires don't last forever...

For example, Kumho XS (one of the top 3 tires in SCCA street tire classes)

275/40/17 = $157/ea
315/35/17 = $205/ea
set of 4 = $724

Similar sizes in 18"
275/35/18 = $215
315/30/18 = $289
set of 4 = $1008

If not those, I prefer the pointy spoke of the V40, as it looks more "vintage" to me.

Using john's 70 Z for example....straight spoke with look good and accent the white on my car...
