I had a pre 97 2wd version in my 67 Camaro and it fitted fine. Only thing needed was some hammer persuasion to the tranny tunnel where the ATF connections/lines go into/from the trans.

Are there any #'s on the tranny that reflect the year ?

If I am correct the 96 and back have the same transmission line location hook up as a 400. The 97 up has one transmission line at the front as a 400 but the other line is toward the rear of the tranny.
