      help with patchs

I'm planning to patch few places on the body in the next few days and i want to know better how to prepare the patches for welding.

what do you guys cover the inside of the patch so it won't catch rust, does anti rust paint chips or flakes when you weld near it?

just want to make sure i won't get rust on the inside of the patches.

      Thanks!

If you will not have access to the back of the patch once it is installed then 3M weld thru primer is an option. Ideally if you have access you should apply seam sealer to the seam once you are done.

Maybe the experts will come in with some better solutions.

Ideally you want to have a few coats of epoxy primer to prevent corrosion,I usually clean the bare metal and treat it with ospho prior welding and soak that area with ospho after ,let it sit for few minutes, then wipe off. once dry in few hours, scuff with red scotch pad, apply some epoxy primer. Always try to find access from the backside to treat new welds against corrosion, because you will find yourself fixing same spot again in few years. New welding seams attract corrosion like crazy, so treat them ASAP.
