      Short Transmission Mount

I'm installing a Viper T56 in my project '68. The Viper's rear mounting point is about 1.5" lower (below the center line of the main shaft) than the mount on an LS1 T56. As a result, with the Energy Suspension transmission mount I'm currently using, the transmission cross member is about 1.5" or so below the subframe rails - not a situation I'm happy with.

So the two part question is:
      • Does anyone know of a shorter transmission mount that will work with a T56, and
      • Can I get away with a solid mount without making the car feel like a Vibra-massage bed?

It's not a good idea to use a solid trans mount and flexible engine mounts. That's a recipe for a cracked tailshaft housing. Not sure about the other questions.

Yeah, I was worried about the solid transmission mounts and the flex from the motor mounts. Thanks.

i had the same problem. are you using your stock crossmember? i used a stock camaro crossmember in my 55 and i cut the mount from the stock location and moved it to the bottom and rewelded it, which gave me the clearance i needed . i am also using an energy suspension mount too.
