      Sharpie Camaro

I was recently asked to do a concept drawing for a local dealership trying to achieve a modern custom look. The shop is equiped with a very nice paint/body shop and wants to start doing custom paint on new camaros as a dealership option that would be covered under gm warrenty. The concept i came up with is a semi 2 tone look with Sharpie Art on top that gracefully falls into the sides without being broken up too harshly by a hardline. The layout doesn't have to be that way... doing just the top panels might look good. The concept is pretty pretty out there, but it did get some peoples' attention. Enough so that they wanted me to do something full scale so they could see what they might potentially have. They gave me a 2010 Corvette roof as a test panel.

I know its a more modern car... but i value the opinions of the members of this forum especially. I just want to get honest opinions about this concept.

      Thanks!

It's very busy for me. I would prefer something simpler.

I agree, its far too busy for me as well. It sort of reminds of railway cars with gang signs all over it. certainly looks Ricer, not muscle.

I think for a dealership trying to appeal to the masses, simplier cleaner lines would be a better choice.

if you think back to all of the dealerships that have had success, they have all added small touches. Low key badges, small thin stripes and ground effects are the norm, and most appealing. If you go as wild as your going, not many people will be interested. Not that what you have is bad, but your appealing to a very limited crowd, that honestly, probably won't be buying a brand new camaro. Your rendering looks alot more custom, that for the people that would want it, are more than likely doing custom work themselves, not wanting to buy it already done.

You need to appeal to a crowd that is in the market for a new camaro in the first place, then make the package a bit more appealing for them to want it. something that is different than all other camaros, but is nice to look at no matter who see's it.

I would like to see the old nose stripes. Maybe even the old hockey stripe with a different twist. even blacking out certain things can make the car look better.

The other reason I would suggest stripes and small details would be that it is overall a quick paint over existing paint for the paint shop.

Having said that. You definately have some talent. My above comments are only personal opinion, nothing against your abilities.

Probably going to piss you off..

But it's just a rip-off of the Sharpie Lambo. Nothing really "creative" about that.

I am way off. For some reason I thought you might be the only one to like it. But then to see this:

I about fell out of my chair.

As for me, I don't like it much either. My thoughts were all captured in the "busy" and tagged up rail car comments.

I think it depends on who it is aimed at? I dig it, I think it could turn out pretty cool. Saw a truck that had the same thing done to it but it was a dark blue so the black did not stand out as much.

In advertising they say the yellow on black or black on yellow is the most readable for advertising on billboards... think the same thing may be true on this one. Not for the one who wants to blend in.

This looks like a good opportunity for a wrap rather than paint

It'd be ok if it weren't a blatant rip off of someone else's work.

That lambo is a famous work of original art. And you've lifted elements straight off of it.

I always liked that Sharpie Lambo.

I've actually been working on a truck wrap sort of along that sharpie theme but with paisley's and snowboard -skateboard elements in it...

Naw, its just plain ugly. I have actually seen better graffiti on the southbound freighter.

I totally see where you are trying to go. Trying to get the gearhead stuff in there, piston bank, injectors, some meshing gears, disc brake rotors. And trying to add some "biker" or dark element with the skulls, cob webs and wings. Then to top it off you are trying to go a lil tribal with the dots and "flares" of lines along with the heavy dark lines and some other abstract art.

Its like a tattoo gone bad. No real strong point. Just trying to get it ALL in there.

And yeah, its easy for me to be critical. I dont mean to be harsh. Just trying to give some positive criticism in a straight forward way. It will never fly with the GM boys. And to be honest, wont fly much past on this site. NOW!! Hop to the import sites and they may eat it up. Ummmm, remove the "chevrolet" and a couple pistons first.

But for me, its just not working. JR
