      Any PT 'Vettes?

      Hey everybody -

Been looking around the site for PT Corvettes and haven't come up with much.

I've been hankering for a '67 with some fat meats and an LS7, blacked out, etc, a la the pro-street Year One car (which I can't really find any info on, either).

      Maybe some twins, too

I really want a C6Z, but a 'C2Z' with a modern drivetrain and suspension setup would be way cool

Finch's Vette looked planted in those corners. Great looking/sounding car that seems to really perform. I would love to have a 68-72 with LS running gear and L88 flares and giant wheel/tire combo along with suspension mods. From what I have seen, the Shark Bite coilovers don't really yield too much of an improvement over a well set up transverse leaf, but they sure do look cool.

what would you like to know? There are a number of vettes setup the way you are talking about. Unfortunately, most do not get driven the way they could. I'm building up a 73 that will be built to handle and a friend is building a 63 split window on an SRiii frame with an LS7. He's tubbing the car so he can run a 12 inch rear wheel and not change the exterior body lines

      My new ride:

might be a bit new for some folks' definition of PT, but with 540 rwhp, 15" brakes, 285 fronts, 345 backs, it should do OK on the road course.

Nice car jp! That thing is a beast. My dream would be a blacked out C6Z06. Those things are straight up NASTY. Those wheels really set it off.

I guess I'm not really looking for very specific information (maybe a little on the suspension options out there as I'd want to run some fat meats front and back), but some links to similarly done cars to admire.

I bet Finch's car gave the 'vette community a few palpitations :D

      Any pics Trey?

I think this is the type of car you described right down to the year and drivetrain. http://www.corvettefever.com/feature...tte/index.html For what it's worth the Corvette crowd really doesn't seem to use the term "pro-touring". The call these cars restomods or vette rods.

you can get away with 9s front and 10s rear on a c3 without modifying the body. Anything else requires body mods from subtle to full on flares depending on tire width. For a C2, forget it. You're tubbing or flaring unless you think a 7.5 to 8inch rim is wide. Those cars have tiny fender wells. On the rear, offset trailing arms exist that move the interference point to the frame and not the trailing arm like stock. You'll need these to run 10s on the back of a C3. They also make double offset arms so you can run a massively deep dish rim but the width isn't any different. Only the offset changes.

For suspension, bolt on coils overs are available for the front and you'll just want to stay with an upgraded composite transverse spring for the rear. You can make the factory frame and suspension handle well but admittedly, the aftermarket frames with C4/5/6 suspensions blow it away especially in the rear.

Brakes are anything you can think of really. How big of a rim and how much money do you want to spend? Those are your limitations.

vetterod is the term used for modified classic vettes. I'm sure if you do a google search you can come up with a lot of pictures and info about a particular car. corvetteforum.com has a huge picture gallery that's searchable and subdivided into generation. You'll find more modified C3s 68-82 than C2 63-67. digitalcorvettes.com is a good source as well.

Be forewarned, a vette does not show it's problems on the surface typically. If you don't know about the cars learn or get someone that does take a look at any potential car. If not, you could end up with a great looking pile of junk.

Just a couple of my favorites
This is my favorite C1. I love the 61/62 cars but typically nothing else
      http://www.corvettefever.com/feature...tte/index.html

I love C2 coupes. Everyone wants a roadster. Screw that! The roadster can not compete with the lines of a coupe. Besides, the tops are crap too and sometimes, I want to ride when the top has to be up.

Frank - Hot roadster there man. Super clean.

Trey - Thanks for the info. I'm with you - I hate convertibles. Goodbye lines!

That C1 definitely pulls it off - certainly depends on the car/body style.

I'd def. want to run a 10/12 combo - I'm certainly not adverse to tubbing the bitch. And personally I don't mind flares on a 'vette. They add a real 'race' feel to the car. If I remember correctly, the Year One vette had some bodywork done to fit those huge wheels. And that thing was just aggressive as ****.

Right now it's just a pipe dream. Smoke 'em if you got 'em.

You can do the offset trailing arms along with L88 style flares and run a 12in rear wheel. L88 flares in the front will let a 10 fit.

The YO vette is similar to the original grand sports with it's body work. So for a C2, you'd be looking for GS flares not L88 flares.

Here's a nice 69 with flares and good info on parts

If you're considering C3s also this thing is still one of the nastiest street legal road racers around. http://www.vetteweb.com/features/vem...ray/index.html

The vette is getting some love this winter and will finally be finished this year. The old blown out coil overs are coming off and a certain leading suspension companies top shelf equipment is going on it. We are also going to 18X10's with 285/35's on all 4 corners to give it a little more front grip.

I will shoot out some update pic's soon with the details of what it will finally grow up to be.

A Corvette IS the original Pro-Touring Car!

Since we like modifying old cars in PT cars let's look at the 60's Corvettes from the factory in comparison to ANYTHING else American at the time.

1963-1967. New and timeless design body, fuel injection and 4 wheel independent suspension and Big Drum brakes and later 4 wheel disc brakes, F41 Handling package and more. Can we say Z06 or L88?

1968 up. New and timeless design body, BB power, alloy wheels, racing option to order for street, 4 Wheel disc Brakes, sidepipes, F41 Handling package and more. Can we say ZL1, ZR1, ZR2?

Sounds like the original PT car of thet ime to me!

Oh and let's not forgot the NEW (now old) 2009 ZR1 Corvette that in factory STOCK conditon out performs most ANY PT car that has been built to date.

The newer ( C6)Z06's are the benchmark that everyone compares their cars to.
Everyone wants a classic car that runs, handles, drives , and gets the fuel economy of a new Z06.
Plus , the comfort is awesome for the "touring" trips ...

I want my '69 Camaro to do all the things a C6 Z06 does..
