i wouldnt exactly say throw away's, they can still make power when built. But if it were me, depending on what the engine was going in, I'd sell all of them and buy the 454. I think it would be the most durable of all the engines mentioned for street/strip usage.

well the 95 non-roller is dime a dozen so that's out.
the 84 'vette? it's a 350 d-a-d and it's not a good year for 'vettes so there's no value there
so as he said, there is no question, keep the 400. pretty much everything from a 350 will fit the 400 so costs are down
or, sell them all and buy an LS motor

LSx are too expensive in my country, nearly the only way to get them is buying a complete Camaro...

these are my choices for the moment...

so the BBC is not a good option? Im understanding that everything is more expensive? is it worth the dollar per hp investment on these?

The Big Block is the way to go in your case, if you build the stock Chevy 400 with decent aftermarket parts you will have a block failure, it will break the main webs out of the block, another option is to take your 400 and put it's parts in a Dart Little M block or a dart SHP block, then as budget allows you can add aftermarket parts to it and end up making a lot of reliable HP. Good luck.

Well, without knowing what you are putting it in and what usage you are looking for (straight line performance or handling) I recommend the 400. Get a Eagle crank and H beam rods to get a 406. These are great engines that last when built and balanced.

Sell them all and get the 454 if all you want to do is go fast. Get a good electric fuel pump and a hot NOS set up. Not digging on the 400 for running a big nitrous set up because of the weaker bottom end and the siamese bore. The steam ports in the block and heads are where your first failures may appear. That's if you don't blow the bottom end out of it. The 454 will take the extra power of nitrous as it sits. You just have to make sure it doesn't have any detonation issues. Hence the electric fuel pump. Can you really get a nitrous bottle filled in Guatamala?

I voted for the 400, but if all engines are complete, I'd go with the 454 if you can get the engine stands for it. If you are trying to make a road race car, then stick with the 400 and save the weight.

LOL...You guys might be a little late to the party, like 2 years late. I'm sure he's made his decision by now, hopefully he kept the 400. Sorry, I had to do it. lol
