Racing Schools

I'm about to pull the trigger on a private full day session out at Spring Mountain raceway in Pahrump. Before I commit, I'd like to hear any reccomendations from those of you that have attended a school in the Southwest. What was involved, cost, track length, etc.

I spent 3 days in Pahrump last week getting schooled on C6s on the 2.2 mile course.

One of the highlights of my life. Highly recommended.

3 days: 6 am to 2:30 pm. Lots of brake modulation, heel-toe shifting, throttle squeezing, and sheer joy when you hit the apex just right.

Cost was $3300 for the 3 days. I'll do it again, first chance I (and my savings account) get. It's the reason I'm working on selling my Nova... I want to spend more money on racing!

I remember you talking about it not so long ago. The boys on lateral g are saying bondurant is superior but you get more seat time at Spring Mountain. I'm thinking of doing a private one on one session for 2k. it's 1k if I take my own car. I've heard it's quite a spread out there. Maybe I'll drive out this weekend and check it out. Racing is addicting!

If you've done track days before and your car is pretty well setup and reliable then take your own car, as it is the one you will ultimately take to the track isn't it. The side bonus is that your instructor can critique your car as well. It's a double bonus.

If you are just starting out...You are doing it the right way.

Are you planning on getting into professional racing, or just open tracking?

I wish you guys would sign up for Iracing. I got second last night in the Star Mazda at Laguna Seca. It is great substitute for shallow pockets. I hate video games and this is no video game.

It is worth every penny.

I've never been on a road course in my life and especially not with my car. I'm working on an oil cooler set up right now. I ran out to spring mountain las Saturday and was impressed. I just need to figure out what course to take and when.

It sounds like the Spring Mountain driving course worked out for John, and it's close to home...Why not give it a try. Just go and be prepared to learn a lot.

A professional driving school is absolutely the BEST money you will ever spend ON your car. You noticed I said spend on "your" car. Most folks with any kind of new modern performance car cannot even drive their car in factory "stock" condition to their car's potential yet they always "think" they need more power and more upgrades so they can go faster. You will finally see how bad a driver you really are when you go to driving school to really learn how to drive fast and safe. That's not a knock on you that's just a fact!

Spend as much as you can afford to improve your own driving skills then go to work on your car! A close and easy to get to driving school is better than none at all!

That's exactly the reason I've decided to take a class. I know the car is better than me at this point.
