Using a Muncie with LS engine

What bellhousing, clutch, etc. are needed? I assume a hydraulic throwout bearing. Will stock trans crossmember work?

      Jeff,

Use a BBC bellhousing, factory style LS clutch and pilot bearing and the Muncie will bolt up. You can even use the factory mechanical TOB set up if you want. Or use an aftermarket bell designed the fit the BBC (with the 168 tooth flywheel).. you'll have a better chance at the 12 o'clock hole being drilled.

Or... if you have a CNC shop nearby : I made an adapter plate from .800 aluminum plate that bolts to the LS factory bell and does the same thing. I'd be happy to share my dimensioned drawing with you. But I just made it end up like a BBC bell.

On the x-member, I'm not so sure.

      Ron,

Did you use the adaptor ring or the Autogear truck front bearing retainer to mate your passenger Muncie to the truck bellhousing?

      JP,

The LS block will accept a standard Chevy bell? This is good to know.

      Jody's Trans,

The Chevy truck bells used both the large and small registar depending on which transmission was installed.

If I remember correctly there is one bolt hole you won't use at about the one or two o'clock position if you are looking at the back of the engine.

Yes, you do have to run an indexing ring with the truck bell, truck transmissions have a bigger bearing retainer, and you do have to leave the pass side top bolt out, because the cylinder is too close to the bell housing bolt surface on an LS1. Ron
