      Frustrated with Local Water Restrictions

Reservoir levels serving the Tampa metro area are down so the county has enacted emergency water restrictions to help conserve water. Part of those restrictions include no residential car washing. So here's the deal...

      1) I can water my grass for 4 continuous hours on one day per week.
      2) I can flush my toilet as many times as I want.
      3) I can take 5 showers a day or fill my tub to the brim.
      4) I can top off my pool or even drain it and re-fill it if I want.

...but I can't wash my car at home with a hose equipped with automatic shutoff nozzle, even if it's sitting on the grass during the grass watering day/timeframe. I can run the kitchen sink all day long, but I can't fill up a bucket from the kitchen sink and wash my wheels with it in the driveway.

Oh yeah, it rains practically every day now and the reservoir is sitting at 21.75 feet (it's full at 22.5 feet).

I realize it's a real issue and I'm just venting, but come on.

park your car on the grass and wash it, and claim your watering the lawn.

Have the sprinkler aimed at the car?
As you know (I'm sure) asking for common sense and actual thinking from the government (any government) is just wishful thinking.

Just think you are lucky you dont live in Ca.

In my city you are not allowed to work on your cars in your drive way. Project cars are considered a eyesour and can be towed, you will get a ticket if you park on the lawn even if its to wash your car which we also get tickets for your water issue depending on the day of the week. and my all time best I get to pay 10.75 % tax.

I wanted to move to NC, but alas my wife is having hot flashes, and she wants no part of the hot south. I love you non-politically correct folks down there. Actually, I love people that think outside the box, and politically correct thought is typically an incorrect box designed by robots.

When you couple political incorrectness with southern charm, its results in a nice tactful dose of honest reality.

You need to go to the city council meetings more often and check out what they do. Not the things they do for local government but the things that the members do for recreation and enjoyment and then go after them. These idiots are just like the ones here in my area and they pass laws that only effect others and not themselves but their lives are not perfect and they push the limits themselves and get away withit. You have to find out when they break the law and then film them.

Beat them at their own game. They live in glass houses and throw stones and they don't even know it. Break their glass and break their ass. Crooks and hypocrites is all they are so expose them and vote them out.

The thing you have to do is just show up and most don't.

I washed my car after Power Tour, not knowing about the restriction. A neighbor actually came out and took a picture of me. I didn't know why at the time. Another different neighbor called me the next day and said 'someone' in the neighborhood saw me washing my car and was considering reporting me. Ugh. I mean really, people have nothing better to do?

So I took my daily driver down the street to the do-it-yourself car wash last night. That was fun. Can I deduct the $5.25 I spent from my water bill? Should I pay my water bill in quarters next time?

Yes. That will make a statement.

Sounds like they choose to ban washing cars because that is the one usage they can actually enforce. And sounds like the neighbors are on the case. Videotape them taking pictures, if only to harass them back.

That restriction is horse crap and is bureaucratic nonsense. Consider putting a sign in your front yard that says "I'm using my water credits to wash my car instead of watering my lawn. Thank You"

I still can't get over you can water your lawn but you cannot wash your car. That’s nuts. When we’ve had restriction it’s everything.

      Here's a good one:

Veratim from the Pinellas County water restrictions: "Rinsing boats and flushing of boat engines is allowed after exposure to salt water and to prevent the transportation of exotic plant or animal material".

So let me get this straight, I can wash my boat, in my driveway, to my heart's content, but I can't wash the tow vehicle?

If I wash the wheels on the boat trailer, do I get in trouble? What level of 'overspray' onto the tow vehicle is allowable?

What if I park at the beach and get some of that 'exotic plant material' on the car?

Better yet, what if I own an amphicar?

      It's all just silly.

Sorry about the hot flashes, my wife is just about done with her's.
I'm originaly from CA and now live part time in Ohio and NC, Ohio is nice but too cold in the winter, California was great but North Carolina wins hands down, it's not the hot sticky place that everybody pictures the South to be, the weather is alot like CA but without the hoards of people and grid lock, plus it has a lower cost of living than the west, you can get a condo on Lake Norman (Race City USA) for a couple hundred thousand $. I didn't really understand how big racing, hot rods and the PT industry was in NC untill I started working here, Im five miles from DSE and CV Products, ten miles from KooK's headers and thirty miles from Mike's Custom Cars not to mention Fat Man and scores of others. And your right about the Southern charm except for a few Yankee hating Rebs. I think that I'll go wash my car now, HaHa !!

Man!, that's why I'm glad I live in Arkansas. Can't park your car on the lawn, Heck that's a lot of people's driveway!
I may have your problem figured out. Go outside butt naked, stand in the back of your pickup with a bar of soap and a water hose and tell your neighbors your taking a shower. Better yet take some plastic fill the bed of your truck with water and tell them your going to take a bath, or that your filling up your swimming pool.
That, should give your neighbors and city officials something to talk about. lol
