      Tim Lincecum

If you enjoy baseball and you haven't seen this kid pitch you are missing out.

Last year's NL Cy Young winner in his first full season in the majors.
      8-2 this year
      Leading MLB in Strikeouts
2nd in the NL in ERA
Tied for 2nd in the NL in wins
3 of his last 4 games have been complete game wins
His last two have been complete game shutouts
Last night, in a complete game shutout he went 9, with 8 K's, 2 hits, 0 walks.....against the Card's....with Pujols in the lineup!!! (sorry JP)

I love Lincecum. He's a guy who seems to get more out of his size than just about anybody else in MLB.

But I love last night's results against the Cardinals. I'm a Reds guy. Go Giants!

(plus my brother has Giants season tix... he sees 20-30 games a year)

Oh...I thought you were a Card's guy. My bad.

I was watching the game last night thinking "oh this is killing JP!"....and laughing.....but now I find out my schadenfreude was misdirected.

IMO the Giant's will make the NL wildcard this year and get CRUSHED in the 1st round. They really need 2 more bats in the lineup. I'd like to see them trade for Ichiro and put him in left or see if they can find a corner infielder with 20 dingers in his bat.

I don't think it's an embarrassment to lose to Lincecum. Give the guy his props. He's been better this year than last, if that's possible.

The Reds need to get Volquez and Encarnarcion back from the DL, and add another bat themselves. They were in the DeRosa sweepstakes, but got outbid by the Cardinals. Again.

Lots of talk about Matt Holliday, Willingham, or even Gary Matthews. One wild fantasy is to go get Hanley Ramirez for a couple of the Reds young starters, and then bring Maloney and Bailey up from AAA.

At least baseball is still fun for me... and it's nearly July.

Look on the brightside Rick. Our starter tonight is 22 years older than Lincecum. Of course....its....Randy Johnson. At least you have Matt Cain to look forward to on Wed.....oh wait. Barry Zito on Thurs?

I don't for a second think we'll sweep. Our offense is way, way too soft but it's sure a lot of fun knowing on 4/5 nights we have a much better than avg chance of beating anyone in the league.

Hasn't been that way for quite a few years out here.

You are only going to get Holliday if you are willing to give up a 3b, ss or 2b. That's where the A's needs are and they don't have someone in AAA that's ready. We'd like to have him too, but we are soft at 2b, old at ss and there is no freakin way the Giants will trade Pablo Sandoval.

And $7M in salary for the rest of the year. Oakland always wants young players, and the Reds don't have anybody considered major league ready like that at AAA. They do have Todd Frazier and Juan Fransisco at AA, both of whom are considered future major leaguers. Wonder if that would get a deal done? That $7M is gonna be a problem though.

I'm an A's fan and I give Lincecum all the props in the world. The kid is a stud with a wicked curve and change up - then a very nice fastball. The Giants always seem to be missing bats when their pitching is so good. I would like to take this time and thank you for taking Zito off our hands. He gives up a couple of hits then mentally breaks down. I watched it happen alot.

I might just go watch the 89 world series for old times sake.

Do that. Don't forget to watch the '90 series as well. It won't take as much time, since it was much shorter.

Both those series were sweeps. But I think 1972 was a little closer.

How about last nights' complete game shutout with only 95 pitches, 60 of them strikes.

Ah, 1972. I was 12 years old, and my family had just moved to Stockton CA (from Dayton OH). In those days, the weekday games were during the day, and I remember watching the games during gym class. I remember clearly that I was the lone Reds fan in my gym class, and maybe the entire middle school.

The image I remember most: Gene Tenace pretending to call for an intentional ball with Johnny Bench at the plate, then quickly ducking down to catch strike 3. I don't think I've seen that attempted ever again.

I was -5 years old. But I love history and respect the Big Red Machine and all and all the players who made the sport great. Just giving you a ribbing. It's great to talk baseball with people who love the game.

Oh, and I won't hold it against Pete Rose for ending Ray Fosse's career in an all-star game. The man hustled like no other.

That was my single favorite play in the history of baseball.

Crushing a catcher in a game that has no bearing at all! Why? Because that's how the game is supposed to be played.

It drives me nuts nowadays when someone won't drill a catcher when it's appropriate to do so.

Pedro Feliz failed to do it twice in a single 3-game series.....against the Dodgers no less, two years ago. Enjoy him Phillies fans.

...and if for some reason they are unable to re-sign both of them I sure hope they wind up in the AL.
