Need some help deciding...

im getting ready to order the disc brakes for my first gen but im not sure which way to go. the cars not going to see any track/autocross time but i want a good reliable set of discs. ive been looking at the cpp complete kit but cant make a decision. Ive also been looking into the touring classics c5 kit as well, anyone have any good info or any other places i could check out. thanks.

Do you have a money limit? If so that can narrow things a tad.Might help to zero in for a start.

money is not so much the issure, i just dont want to overspend and under use. i am leanign towards c5 fronts casue i can get a decent deal on the calip[ers and rotos im just not sure what else i need to use. ive got drum spindles and hubs, where do i go from there?

Try calling Frank at Prodigy,

He has a couple good brake packages available, and better than that he has free advice. I have purchased brakes for my camaro through him, got the quality of wilwood and a good price too. Here is a thread link for you....

Do you already have your wheels and tires? If you do, then the track width changes of each flavor of big-brake kit should be taken into consideration. Also, another thing to be aware of is that some kits may only be compatible with disc spindles.

If your wheel situtation warrants it, I would go with C5's. Get with Tobin at Kore3, really knows his stuff and super helpful. I got some C6 Z06 stuff from him and it's first rate all the way.

For what its worth, just get someone's package. I pieced together my own and it wasn't worth my time. Touring, Kore 3, Prodigy or MuscleRodz all have kits and they are more reliable and yet more cost effective than anyone on the net. I spent months looking so I can say that honestly.

Give Tobin a shout at Kore 3. He just posted earlier as Apogee.

You save money over a Wilwood or Baer, and replacement parts come from your local auto parts store.

The BIGGEST reason for the recommendation is "after the sale customer support."

If you are set on baer or Wilwood, I can vouch Frank at Prodigy Customs is equally service minded.

tobin, i believe we spoke this afternoon, you emailed me some install info. im interested in your stuff. i might be using a set of coys wheels but im trying to figure out whether they are going to clear. im also still up in the air about the rears due to the parking brake issue.

go with wilwood. I really like their stuff at a good price. for the parking brake i dont like the internal drum, so i am going with the wilwood spot caliper and make my own brackets. but im sure someone out there makes a kit for the caliper bracket and spot caliper.

No doubt the Wilwood E Brake system is the cats meow. The internal drum is a very nice set up.

Wheel to caliper "spoke" clearance is the best in the industry with Wilwood, so no worries running Production type wheels as long as they large enough to clear the brakes. RE: 17s or bigger.

Reiner, thanks for the email and your welcome for the information. You may want to contact a few of the excellent wheel vendors (I believe Jon at Driver's Inc carries both) on the board who carry A/R and/or Coys wheels for specific fitment questions. Our templates are available from the Tech page on our site, so please feel free to forward those to anybody who may need them. You may also post up in the wheel/tire forum and see who's running the same size/width/backspacing in the type of wheel that you'd like to run and whether or not they're running any sort of spacer. I'm not sure about Coy's, but I know that A/R used to be able to run the 18" TTII's through their custom shop to clear C5/C6/Z51 brakes...not sure if that option still exists, but it might be worth asking. As I remember, there wasn't that much of a price difference, just a longer delivery time.

what do you think about the spot calipers from wilwood? i dont like the weight of the internal drums. Are there any kits out there? i know wilwood still sells the mechanical spot calipers.
