O2 sensor placement for Gen 7 DFI

I am getting ready to install my O2 sensor and I have a bung on my #5 cylinder about 8" from the head in a straight area of the tube that I can drill the hole and install. This place was designed for the O2 sensor on a Vette so it would reach without an extension.

Is this spot the best for the sensor or should I put a bung on my collector and get the readin g fom there?

Which is the real best spot for the 02 sensor ?

Sorry to be Captain Obvious, but the collector is the better spot since you can tune to the average of four cylinders, rather than just one.

The other thing to remember is to put the sensor so that moisture can't get trapped in it. The sensor should point down a few degrees.

agreed, collector is much better. As far as placement, if you were looking at the header collector from the rear of the car, the top being 12:00, you should drill the hole somewhere between 9 and 3, the upper half of the collector. This way the sensor itself isn't in the moisture that naturally falls in the lower half of the collector and exhaust pipe. Doesn't have to be straight on top, but shouldn't be straight out or below either, slightly on the upper side is fine.

I know John said this, but in case you thought pointing down referred to the exposed side of the sensor instead of the part in the pipe, I thought I'd throw that in...............

Thanks guys, I figured the collector was the best place but that bung already there was tempting me.

Thanks for the water tip as clearance near the collector is on the side of the pipe.
