      Flywheel Machining

Does anyone know if I could take a current LSx flywheel and have it drilled for an old school 10.5" clutch bolt pattern? Obviuosly I'd want a intelligent shop so the drilled holes are concentric with the flange.

I'm looking into this because I have a brand new clutch and I'm looking for an alternative to buying the new McLeods flywheel (read $400) that is machined .400" thicker for the LSx to old school trannies conversion.

You don't need a fancy flywheel. Check out my build thread, link in sig. A regular LSx flywheel and matching clutch will work just fine, assuming your old school trans has a 26 spline input.

andrew, yes I have the 26 spline. Just sucks though cause I have the new clutch that will be basicaly useless. Thats why I was curious if the flywheel could be drilled. Maybe I can find a used set-up that has the includes the clutch adn then sell the clutch.

Someone is making a spacer-shim to make up for that -I'm not sure that thats the hot setup tho, why not T56 it? at least you know that it will handle the power + O/D too.

I thought the spacer was for the automatics? I've never heard of one for manuals.

Ok I have to be honest, its a D&D viper tranny. I'm so used to saying its an "old school" tranny because it causes much less confusion. Anyone who knows the D&D knows that its modified to fit like an original GM tranny.

I would sell whatever clutch you have, and get an LS7 clutch/LS2 flywheel. Don't make this overly complicated. It is not so simple to drill a flywheel for a clutch. There are also pins that have to be inserted. This is what actually aligns the pressure plate cover on the flywheel.

Yeah I agree, but I started this post after talking with you andrew. And I do agree the LS7 clutch/LS2 flywheel is the way to go. This post started as a hypothetical question not as me trying to over complicate it. There are some guys out there with not so deep pockets and are trying to accomplish things with what they have.

And FYI the older GM clutches are not located by pins but by shouldered bolts.
