1970 chevelle 18x9?

I was thinking about getting some Tork wheels in a 18x9 with a 5.75 backspace all the way around with a 275/35/18 tire. Anybody have any experience with this size? Anybody see any problems? My chevelle is all stock (for now) with Eibach lowering springs. THANKS

You can fit a 18x9 with 5.75 back spacing in the rear all day long so if you want to get them Tork wheels go for it!!! What tire size are you looking at??? I would put the MAX on it!!! My front is 18x9 wheel just to let you know backspacing is less then that ( double check with musclecar john, my size wheels etc are same as his 70 chevelle).

For the wheel that I want (''imagine'') Tork only makes it in a 18x9, nothing bigger :( but I pan on sending it to Weldcraft later on and have it brought out to 18x10.5

I run 18x9 up front on my 68 GTO. See the link in my sig for pics.

Go with 5.5 or less BS on the front. A 5.75 will hit the back of the lower control arm at full lock. The sharp edge of the stock control arms will shave off the inside edge of the wheel and damage the tire. If you go with 265 you can run a bit more BS. Measure!

For a 70 I assume that you have disks up front. Drum cars have a slightly narrower track and you have to run less backspacing.

Another problem area to look for is the positive camber gain. As the stock suspension compresses the top of the tire actually moves out. This can cause interference at the top of the wheel arch. This will rip up the wheel well trim and damage the tire. Check the clearance with the suspension compressed and wheels turned.

With a Chevelle you don't have an interference problem at the back of the front fender arch like a Pontiac so you can get the wheel out a bit more.

That size should fit in the rear with no problem. That is a guess based on my measurements. I don't run that size out back so I can't help you there.

It is best is to go with a dealer that knows your car. I went with Prodigy Customs
