Someone once said that F1 "is run by small men with big egos". When he said small, I don't think he was referring to their stature.
I wish I could remember who said it.

They've been touting Bobby Rahal's son Graham as a potential F1 candidate. I think he's still only 19 or 20, but could be a candidate for a drive in 2010.

Agree that Danica wouldn't cut it on that circuit. Juan Pablo was only adequate in F1 coming from the IRL (or CART don't remember) and he was 10x times the driver that Danica is.

Heck, I am free....it is going to be tough with teams like Ferrari and Mclaren spending as they do....I had heard last year or the year before that Marco had tested an F1 car??

JPM was a damn sight more than adequate as an F1 driver.

      Active years 2001- 2006
      Teams Williams F1/McLaren
      Races 95 (94 starts)
      Championships 0
      Wins 7
      Podiums 30
      Career points 307
      Pole positions 13
      Fastest laps 12
First race 2001 Australian Grand Prix
First win 2001 Italian Grand Prix
Last win 2005 Brazilian Grand Prix
Last race 2006 United States Grand Prix

No he never won the big prize. But you don't get 7 F1 wins and 30 podium finishes if you are average. Many among the sports intelligencia believe that he was something of an anachronistic driver for his time. Had he been in F1 from 1995-2001 when the cars required less of a fine touch and more "manhandling" he would have been more successful. He was a fair bit heavier than his contemporaries as well and at that level a few pounds more in the car does indeed make a difference.

I might be just a little bitter about that guy... I was a Williams/BMW fan and that guy left the team in a shambles.

This team will need a lot of American support. I look forward to watching an American team in F1. I dont know about Danica...is she the best fit for this?

How am I going to cheer for anyone other an King Louis Hamilton?

No. There is no way she has the talent to compete at that level. She's mid-pack in a series where the best of the best struggle to survive at the F1 level.

It's a gambit to draw interest from the press and potential sponsor dollars. Nothing more.

Former F1 driver Scott Speed has said he has no interest in leaving Nascar for this venture. He was pretty average in F1 as well.

Before you bag on Scott too much on his F1 career keep in mind that he had coilitis for the most of the year while he was training and learning the car - yes that did mean he had to wear an adult diaper while driving. Also there were some BIG personality conflicts in the Torro Rosso team. Things aren't going to go well when people see the team manager hitting you in the back of the head and talking smack about you. Great story about Scott in either Road & Track or Car & Driver a few months back.

It would be cool to see an American in F1 for more than just one season at a time!

Was lucky enough to speak to Bob Bondurant at SEMA this year and heard some great stories about F1 back in the day.

Good to hear, wish them all the best. It's going to be a tough long road for sure.

Hopefully they bring F1 races back to North America.

I had no intention of bagging on him at all. In all honesty, by calling him average I think I may have been kind, given he didn't score a point in 28 races. His health issues are truly unfortunate, as I would have liked to see an American driver have success in modern day F1.

I agree with the mid-pack statement. I think Marco Andretti would be a very marketable young man for F1 in the states.

One not so little benefit of the timeline here is that until they are actually engaged in F1 the wind tunnel and track testing restrictions placed on current active teams do not apply. They can do a lot to bring themselves up to speed so to speak before they ever hit the track in anger.

The 2010 F1 Schedule indicates an F1 race in the United States , but no details have been posted.
It would be nice to have a state of the art F1 track in the U.S..
Like the new ones in Spain , Malaysia and China .
Maybe they could improve an existing track ???

F1 is hard to be competitive in , to say the least..

I hope it works well for the U.S. team.

Palm Beach International Raceway (formerly Moroso Motorsports Park) is in the process of FIA certification. I think this is the option the FIA is leaning to because of the "atmosphere" of Miami and Palm Beach.

Moroso (I refuse to call it PBIR), is a piece of crap. Or at least it was when I was there a few years back. The road course was in disrepair (pot holes, huge cracks, etc.). The focus was on their dragstrip.

It looks like someone purchased it, so I am going to assume they have resurfaced/rennovated the track.

Even still, its an 1.5 hour drive to Miami, 1 hour to Ft. Lauderdale.

Could not stand Juan Pablo-Montoya that guy was such a cry baby cause he got his ass kicked regularily by Schumacher.

I mean who leaves the Mclaren F1 team to go to Nascar? Talk about taking two steps backwards in your career.

The guy knew he sucked, so he went to a much less advanced form of racing so he could try and dominate again. Don't know how he has done, but he is still a cry baby in Nascar too isn't he??

Did you guys remember that Jaques Villenueve came from Cart Champion to F1 in 1996 and won the F1 championship in 1997.

He did much better than that cry baby JPM ever did.

watch this cry baby video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtjBLN8MxgQ
