Someone once said that F1 "is run by small men with big egos". When he said small, I don't think he was referring to their stature.
I wish I could remember who said it.

They've been touting Bobby Rahal's son Graham as a potential F1 candidate. I think he's still only 19 or 20, but could be a candidate for a drive in 2010.

Agree that Danica wouldn't cut it on that circuit. Juan Pablo was only adequate in F1 coming from the IRL (or CART don't remember) and he was 10x times the driver that Danica is.

Heck, I am free....it is going to be tough with teams like Ferrari and Mclaren spending as they do....I had heard last year or the year before that Marco had tested an F1 car??

It would be nice to have a state of the art F1 track in the U.S..
Like the new ones in Spain , Malaysia and China .
Maybe they could improve an existing track ???

F1 is hard to be competitive in , to say the least..

I hope it works well for the U.S. team.
I wanna' go see them Live !!
Palm Beach International Raceway (formerly Moroso Motorsports Park) is in the process of FIA certification. I think this is the option the FIA is leaning to because of the "atmosphere" of Miami and Palm Beach.

JPM was a damn sight more than adequate as an F1 driver.

      Active years 2001- 2006
      Teams Williams F1/McLaren
      Races 95 (94 starts)
      Championships 0
      Wins 7
      Podiums 30
      Career points 307
      Pole positions 13
      Fastest laps 12
First race 2001 Australian Grand Prix
First win 2001 Italian Grand Prix
Last win 2005 Brazilian Grand Prix
Last race 2006 United States Grand Prix

No he never won the big prize. But you don't get 7 F1 wins and 30 podium finishes if you are average. Many among the sports intelligencia believe that he was something of an anachronistic driver for his time. Had he been in F1 from 1995-2001 when the cars required less of a fine touch and more "manhandling" he would have been more successful. He was a fair bit heavier than his contemporaries as well and at that level a few pounds more in the car does indeed make a difference.

Moroso (I refuse to call it PBIR), is a piece of crap. Or at least it was when I was there a few years back. The road course was in disrepair (pot holes, huge cracks, etc.). The focus was on their dragstrip.

It looks like someone purchased it, so I am going to assume they have resurfaced/rennovated the track.

Even still, its an 1.5 hour drive to Miami, 1 hour to Ft. Lauderdale.

Could not stand Juan Pablo-Montoya that guy was such a cry baby cause he got his ass kicked regularily by Schumacher.

I mean who leaves the Mclaren F1 team to go to Nascar? Talk about taking two steps backwards in your career.

The guy knew he sucked, so he went to a much less advanced form of racing so he could try and dominate again. Don't know how he has done, but he is still a cry baby in Nascar too isn't he??

Did you guys remember that Jaques Villenueve came from Cart Champion to F1 in 1996 and won the F1 championship in 1997.

He did much better than that cry baby JPM ever did.

It is under new ownership. The roadcourse is now 2 miles and the dragstrip has been revamped. From everything I have read and heard it is night and day over Moroso.

      True,
Who do you think would compete in F1?

It's tough to say. I don't pay a lot of attention to open wheel racing unless it's on a road course and most US open wheel events are on ovals. What we have seen proven time and time again is that success in oval racing is not in any way an analogue for success in road racing at the highest levels. That said, a great driver will be successful in both (provided they have good equipment).

F1 is many many steps up the ladder from CART/IRL or whatever they are calling it now and few people have what it takes to be competent, let alone competitive at that level.

On an emotional level, I would love to see either of those kids get a shot at it. But sending them to the wolves simply because they are American or because of their legacy would be a mistake. I like the idea of having American drivers on the team. But I don't think it should be done at the expense of being competitive. We don't need a male version of Milka Dunno forming a moving chicane on the F1 circuit just because he/she happens to hold a US passport.

I want to see them be competitive from the outset thus, I'd prefer to see them hire an experienced competitive existing F1 driver from any Nation as the #1 driver on perhaps a 2yr contract and find the absolute best American they can find as #2. If #2 proves his worth they can drop #1 and promote him and bring on the next project driver to fill the second slot.

I dont think danica would cut it in f1, I just cant see it.

Villeneuve has been out of it too long and seemed to have lost the fire his last few outings. I worship his late father so I say that with all due respect.

Montoya is a little grating at times but you can see in that he has had quite a career. The clip of him him getting bumped by a cameraman is pretty funny..."you EEEEEEdiot!"

I also agree a pair of rookies would make the first season results tough to measure.

And I want to see Milka topless.

What happened to the "Red Bull Challenge" or whatever it was called? This was supposed to help groom American drivers into an F1 ride.

Anyone else interested in Kyle Busch as a potential driver? I think from a marketing perspective it would create a lot of buzz and then you could team a lesser known (potentially better in the long-run) rookie F1 driver with him.

I might be just a little bitter about that guy... I was a Williams/BMW fan and that guy left the team in a shambles.
