      Let's talk Quarter Midgets

I am thinking about getting my 7 year old boy into quarter midget racing. Who has experience with this and what is the best way to get started? Can it be done on a very modest budget?

buy a used setup from someone getting out of it or upgrading their car. This can be an invaluable teaching resource if you son is into cars, explain everything that you do and he will begin tuning the thing himself. Explain every chassis adjustment and how it affects the other corners.

Unless you are a real chassis guru, stick with a torsion bar car, they are easier to set up and do not need to be fine tuned as much for different tracks and conditions.

modest budget? I was involved in QMs in the 80's and they were expensive then, you could build a decent bracket car for what a competitive b or aa went for, but unlike carts, QMs are scale model race cars so they are going to cost more the faster you go.
