      Dual-Disc Clutch Install

Okay, I've been beating my head agaisnt this in my garage time for weeks now.

LS1, T56. McLeod Dual Disc clutch ("Street Twin", or similar). Clutch was rebuilt by McLeod so everything is fresh.

I've got the clutch attached to the motor per their instructions. What I can't do is get the damn transmission in.

I've verified multiple times that the disks are centered (and pulled it apart to recenter). I am using one of those plastic disk-centering-tools things.

I've verified that the splines on the disks do mesh with the splines on the input shaft.

The transmission came attached to this engine, so I know it fits.

I tried using a single 10mm long bolt to pull the top center of the tranny to mesh, but it hit a stopping point and wouldn't go any further, and when I took the bolt out the tranny backed off again. Same thing from the sides (I only had the one long bolt -- that was the only one the hardware store had).

What's the secret? I'm trying to do this with the engine sitting on the floor of the garage; is this something to do only with the engine in the car? Is there a secret trick? Wobbling, lifting, turning, etc haven't worked. I've tried it alone and with my stepson helping. No luck.
