      1st gen difference questions

Just wondering what the differences are between the first gens.

compared to 67, 68 has no vent windows, has side markers, staggered shocks

Am I missing any other changes?

Then does the 69 just have the obvious body change?

67-68 have the gas filler in the rear tail panel and the 69 is behind the license plate.

If I remember correctly, the 67 has the rear shocks in front of the axle and the 68-69 are staggered with the left behind the axle and the right in front of the axle.

The 67 has round parking lights in the grill and the 68 has more rectangular parking lights in the grill. The 69 has round parking lights in the valance below the grill.

67's did not have flow thru ventilation and 68-9 did and a lot of parts that are basic to shape sheetmetal wise will have reliefs and holes that date when the car was made. Even if you look at the inner door panel or the rear quarter door lock and jamb area you will find different reliefs stamped in them even in the same model years. Replacement panels even would be different in later years. There are many differences between all 3 years and it could take up a book of its own.

The SS hoods are different between the years. RS package gives the front a different look through the years as well.

Chassis related... there wasn't much significant difference.

'68 was the start of staggered rear shocks.
'67 - '69 used the exact same subframe.

thanks rhino that was the most important thing to me and that was what I thought

On a side note: anyone know if there is a difference in max tire size inside stock fenders (other than a lip roll) without rubbing?

If I recall correctly, the '69 did have slightly larger wheel wells in the rear. I'll have to research that to be 100% sure. If there is a difference though, I would believe it to be within an inch. Nothing drastic, but every little bit helps. '67 and '68 would be functionally the same.

Camaros.net, posted above, will be a great resource for any specifics that are 1st gen related. I've gathered a significant amount of knowledge there.
