      Control Arm question

Can someone tell me if different brands of control arms (specifically AirRide Strong Arms vs. SpeedTech) installed on the same front setup will cause the wheel/tire combo to stick out further or tuck in more than with the other brand?

We ordered my fronts after much research and communication with other 68 Camaro owners and am pretty sure I nailed the width/BS numbers, but apparently the tire sticks waaay out of the fender too far (like an inch at least). I have Strong Arms now but am wondering if using them caused this. Can the difference be as much as an inch??

I did a search and couldn't find the answer so I posted this.

      thanks!

Most aftermarket arms are closely based to stock dimentions so they may not.

Pictures and alignment specs would be a great help.

Hmm... we are wondering if the measurements of our custom wheels are off from what we ordered. Measuring today and calling the maker tmrw....

These parts (control arms, brakes, wheels/tires) were literally just installed on the subframe and body lowered over it for fitment mock-up. Don't have pics yet. No alignment.

I mean, can 2 diff control arm brands vary as much as an inch+ ??

Put a 24" level on the tire and make sure the top of the tire is leaning in (Negatvie camber) Half to one degree would be something around a 1/2". I can almost bet you have possitive caster right now (tire leaning out at the top).

I believe Frank meant positive camber here.

The StrongArms are built to factory width. Don't some of the aftermarket disc brake kits push the wheel out a bit?

We are using Wilwood 13" rotors on front.

we feel the wheel maker might have made an error in the dimensions. Probably gonna send back for adjustments.

What's the maximum amount of shims you guys feel good about running for the camber/caster adjustments? 3/8"? 1/2"?

Fwiw, drum brake hubs vs 2-piece and 1-piece rotor hub cast are right at 9/16" narrower in each side's width due to the drum hubs having the flat that much closer to the centerline of the car.

You are looking at roughly 1-1/8" wider front track using 2-piece and 1-piece rotor hub cast instead of drum hubs.

David Pozzi has pic's of both on his great 1st Gen. web site..

And I have both drum and 2-piece hubs out in the garage..

David Pozzi's page has endless info... impressive. I used this site (which has bene referenced numerous times on this forum when discussing 275s on the front of a 1st gen).

      http://www.geocities.com/casanoc/

I used this as one of the references of a successful fitment of 275s using a stock front subframe.

Other than the wheel maker using the wrong wheel size/measurements I do not know where I went wrong..
