Rear gear in LS1 69 Camaro

Just wondering what you guys are running for a rear gear in you LS1 with T-56 conversion..

Car is a 69 Camaro. Tires are 335/35/17

Mostly street driven.. But I want a good performance gear..

      Thanks

      If you're running a T56 with a .50 6th gear than I would reccomend 4.10 gears. I'm running 3.70s and 6th is still almost useless, I will be switching to 4.10s

That overdrive was only put into the cars for help meeting federal mileage requirements. Besides, 4.10s are fun

in my fourth gen car with 275/40/18s i've ran 4.10's and 3.73's.imo the 4.10's are to much unless you race alot.most of the time around town i would start out in 2nd gear with the 4.10's.
on the freeway with 4.10 @2000 rpms you'll be doing around 70mph and with the 3.73 @2000rpm you'll be around 80mph.
      i will be using a 9" in my '69 running 3.90 gears

The real key is how much hp/tq are you expecting or know you are putting down? cause that's gonna make a huge difference in the gears...

Factory t-56 you are either going to have a useless 1st gear or a useless 6th gear. If gas mileage is the game 3.73, if performance 4.10. 3.90 with a 9 inch rear probably about as good as it will get. That is what I will be running in my 68 Camaro

How is 1st gear acceleration with those gears, my 3.08 gears are not so hot, I would not recommend them unless you need to go 200 in 5th or something.

LS7,T56, 335/30/18 tires, 4.10 gears also. Only have around 120 miles on the car but I love the 4.10's so far! I've only been on the freeway once and I was enjoying it so much I never did look at the speedo. OK I'm no help at all, Sorry!!

So what gear could be used with a stock/small camshaft?

1st gear acceleration is great, anything below 20 MPH while rolling into the throttle roasts the tires though.

How small are we talking? I have the TR224 Cam on a 112 LSA. 224/224 .563/.563 and the 4.10's are prefect for what I want with occasional dragstrip times, keeps my powerband where I want it. Even with a little smaller cam like a Z06 I would think 4.10's would work well as long as its a T56.

If it were me, I would pick the rear gear that will allow you to go through the traps right at redline in 4th. I had 4.10s in the RX7 with a T56 and it was perfect. With a 26 inch tire I was hitting the rev limiter just as I crossed the traps. On the highway the 5th and 6th gears provided all the overdrive I needed.

So yah...I vote for a set of 4.10s. It will be easier on the clutch too.

I have 28s w/ 4.10s. I cross the traps at the top of 4th. get 21mpg on the highway averaging about 70mpg. I wouldn't go anything else.

Depends on your setup, Mine needs 3.08's to go through the traps, but 1st gear sucks on the street, I have to slip the clutch to get rolling and I idle at 10 mph. A litle tough in rush hour traffic to go 10 mph when everyone idles at 5 mph.

Ultimatly, that is the best way though, figure your quarter mile and gear for that.

this is true.the more power you make the less gear you need.if you're over 450rwhp i wouldn't go any higher than 3.73 unless its a mostly drag car.if you're under 400rwhp i would run the 4.10
