      Rear end fluid pump

      Looking at a cooling system for my rear (10 bolt). any sugestions on which pump will work best. heard tilton is good. electric preferred.

      They are available thru VAC Motorsports, Bobby Archer and a few others.

      If you are going to be doing any serious road racing, I do recommend paying attention to just this issue. The type and weight of lubericant will also take some research. I myself use an ISO straight 250wt with a suspended moly for endurance and/or high speed use... and an ISO straight 140wt for the street.

      The first thing you should do is to plumb a temperature guage into the rear cover to get an idea on just to see where your at now. You may not need to spend the bucks to cool it, if you dont get into a temperature saturation problem. If you do this, a simple electric guage and sender is cheap... but you wont get the accuracy of a capilary tube or k-type thermocouple for a couple of bucks more.

      Autometer has a few that will work just fine for what your trying to accomplish without braking the bank.

      great info. Boefore I assemble the rear, I will drill and tap it for the coolong system. Existing fill hole as teh return and the feed from the bottom. I'll start with the gauge first and the install the system if needed. I figure this is a cheaper option that going to an Currie 9" for 2800 incl powder coating. If the 10 goes, then I will replace it. For now I'll use that money and put it towad another part.

      A tip on diff or trans temps:
      Get rid of the plastic vents the factory uses. On the diff tap the vent hole and run a hose up and put a pickup truck vent in it. We are trying a fuel filter - inline type, it will vent but filter any air that enters.

      We are getting by on the trans but at least a metal vent or better yet a hose running higher to around the firewall is a good method. Temps can get high enough to melt the vent given enough time. Or at least it can loosen and fall out causing loss of lube.

      This was mentioned by GM for the Corvette Lemans effort and we have had the plastic vent loosen on our 73 Camaro diff. we are not running a cooling system, only run 20 minute track sessions.
