      Goodguys Columbus 2007

I'm making my first trip and I will be taking my GTO. Lots of hotels to choose from. Where are the nicer hotels? Near the airport? North Columbus? Next to the fairgrounds? Wife needs to know...

Do they allow trailers to be stored at the fairgrounds? Car's are left secure at the show for Fri. & Saturday? Any hotels provide security for this event?

      Please help..... Thanks, R.P.

I stay at the Host hotel. I was lucky enough to get in there several years ago, and havent' given up my spot since. Its very hard to get in there. I know they have security. There are a lot of hotels all around it. A lot of people stay north of 270 too, so look there also.

One year I stayed near the University, but didn't really like the area, so I didn't go back.

I think trailers can be kept at a lot near the fairgrounds. But no cars or trailers can stay on site over night. Unless you're an exibitor. Most people just leave their trailer at the hotel, and drive back and forth to the show everyday. It's not that far.

If you want to get a good spot in the show, get in line before 5:00 am, or sooner.

Thanks for the info. 5:00am, that's just crazy. I guess my car will be up against the fence in the back row. I sleep into 9:00am rain or shine.

Yeah, it sucks. What's even crazier is that some people put their car in line the night before, and sleep in it!

Great - you can park by us! That's where we end up.

We try to get there early, but I'm not camping in the car! Wait - what car??? I don't have anything finished for this year. I guess I'll ride in with Dad again!

You are right, it is crazy! Every GG show I have been to is like this, of course, these are only the posers that show up that early!! These people don't drive the fairgrounds, just rub the paint all day, its a joke.

Is there an official Pro-Touring Section at this event? Is our type of cars out of mainstream? Is it a free for all at the gate when you show up?

Any help is welcome.... Thanks, R.P.

I've been out there a few times, last minute trips, I found a nice place to stay on the east side in Reynoldsburg, not too far from the grounds (20 minutes?) - LaQuinta inn; the rooms were real nice and reasonable. It also puts you part way between the fair grounds and National Trails raceway in case you want to catch some drag strip action!

There is a great place to eat on Rt40 in Reynoldsburg- Hickory House (I think there is one north of Columbus too.) absolutely the best bbq ribs I've ever had.

I am not sure if there will be a section for Pro-Touring, however several usually get together at the shows, so it is unofficial. By no means are the Pro-Touring cars out of the mainstream, GG is still about the early cars, however, this is one of the best for 60's-70's muscle, since the SMOY award is given away. You are in a single file line at each of these events, then once in the fairgrounds area, it is a free for all for the most part, but they will have several sections for different awards participants, mainly for Saturday's part of the show. Good luck!

All right guys, I took my GTO to a local car show. Eyes on Design here in MI. Trailered the car. We, meaning my son and I loaded and unloaded the car. It was a one day event. I'm beat. I'm scheduled to arrive at goodguys Thurs night and leave Sun. 3 days sounds exhausting. What do I miss if a show up Fri night?

      Any suggestions?

What is the Pro-Area? Is that were you are invited to a spot to be considered for the SMOY award?

Log on to Goodguys website and under events look up Columbus they have a list of hotels, most all the hotels on the list have some sort of security.

When we used to go we stayed on the north side of town about 10 miles or so away there was like 5-6 hotels all on this street with restaurts and stuff.was nice the fairground part of town isnt the nicest area(not the hood type)just older part of town.

I already have booked my hotel. I'm just wondering how to survive a 3 day trip and is it worth all the effort? Since I am not a morning person, lets say I arrive Fri. late morning, will I be put in the back yard of the fairgrounds or behind some building? Once I have a spot do I hold it for the following day? Getting there at 4:00-5:00 am is insane. How do you even know if the right people even get to see the car. I'm refering to the various judges and awards. Maybe I will hire Bill Howell as my marketing and promotional manager. He knows how to get ink in a big way.

I'm kidding. See you at noon, maybe. Remember I'm 50 years old and have had mutiple major surgeries. I love these type of events, I just wish there wasn't this much worked involved. It was a lot easer as a spectator then it is as particpant. However it is a lot more gratifying.

Roger on Friday the place to park is in the vendor area. When you go in the entrance (there is only 1 for cars). Hang your first right and the area where the vendor trailers are has nice trees and parking. You'll have to get there a little early to get a spot. They usually open the gates early.

On Saturday the Pro-pick area is over by the slide, but the GG's people will help you get there.

There is SO Much parking at that event and SSSOOOO many cars it's crazy.

My brother and I will get there Friday and stay Saturday. Can't wait to see the GTO!
