      Parts swapping LSx

      OK,

could you guys straighten this out for me. I have a 6.0L out of an 05 Hummer without any harness or computer and intake. I'm trying to decide if i'm going to run it w/ the Victor Jr and a carb but its only advertised for the LS1-6...Do they share the intake w/ the 6.0L and LS2?

I'm waiting for confirmation on an 06 LS2 pull out out of a Trailblazer SS that was supposed to be OK 2 weeks ago but is taking some time so i'm getting tired.....

Since i dont have an computer either, what should i do if i was to run it injected, i looked at HP Tuners, but then what?

I Like John Parson's Intake and TB Unit too.

      HELP!!!

If you want some serious EFI power you should look into the L92 heads & Intake for the 6.0L or LS2. As for your harness and PCM I am sure John at Speartech www.speartech.com can hook you up with what you need.

The intake will fit.... If you're going to run a EFI intake, you'll need to swap out the water pump pulley for a F-body one and use Speartek's new tensioner to make the belt clear the shorter performance intake.

I'd personally wait on the LS2, if the price is reasonable, since its all aluminum. Use the H2 motor as a mock up...

All you'll need is a computer out of a LS-x vehicle. Any good programmer can make it work with any LS-x motor. Same with the wiring harness.

As for the L92 stuff, you can make the same power with conventional heads, you'll spend just as much porting them as you will for the offset rockers you'll need for the L92's. And you can only use one intake with the L92's...

Not that they're a bad head. Its just pick your poison.

Rybar, Thanks. I looked at John's stuff but have a hard time understanding why his stuff, if i remember correctly, is advertised at 2k and up when everyone else is around a Grand. (Maybe because i'm so green at EFI) also there are so many questions to ask and little things to know. I have very little time to sit down and "Concentrate" to read all i probably should....At least, if i could find the right stuff instead of passing the time i have "Searching".....

I REALLY want to run injected tough. I need a new engine combination for sure anyway as i just finished installing my original 327 into a friends friend Camaro, Thats why i'm now looking at the 6.0L.

Goatman, yeah, i was sure it was a done deal on the TBSS LS2, i should get more news this week. It IS a good deal. If that is gonna happen, i will leave it as is and it comes with everything you need or want as i should get the whole truck (insurance...)

I read alot on the L76 - 92, the seem like good stuff but i'd rather put my dough in a huffer or somthing if i was to spend for aftermarket stuff.

I didn't know i could run any ECU, thats good to know.

Are you aware if i get HP tuners (which i think comes with its own ECU?) if i need other stuff or do i simply plug it in and start tuning?

I tought it was expensive but checked it out last night and it like 700$ for the pro version or 500$ for the basic set up.

...Then i need some kind of harness i guess.

There are also the swap parts that i read good and bad comments about same parts that is not helping.

Oh well, thatnks for letting me blow a little steam! I'm getting in the thick of it and it shows i guess....That must be a good sign that i'm getting serious about this part....

I would simply buy everything that's attached to the motor (wiring harness, ecu, etc). I would also cut the exhaust off after the O2 sensors and reuse them. As far as the trans goes, you'll need a 2wd (obviously) out of a 2000 and up F-body (truck might be the same, not sure), so the wiring harness can directly connect.

I am not familiar with the HP stuff. I know Speartek's stuff is really good. Expensive, but its plug and play. You will need to go through the harness and take out the wires to the sensors you won't need. That's why his stuff is so expensive, I believe. I think I'm going to send him my harness and have it gone through. That way all the connectors work with my engine.

I am just starting my project too. Its a big learning curve!

FYI, you cant just run any ecm. The crank reluctor and crank sensors were changed from the LS1 to LS2 and you need the correct PCM. The TBSS with everything would be the best deal as you will spend less time chasing all the little parts down.

Ok, you want to run injected but you want to save some $$$ right? Do like the others and source the wiring harness and PCM from the motor you are going to run (wether it is from a truck for the 6.0L or from the TBSS) John at Speartech can modify this harness and PCM to run stand alone for alot less money than buying a new harness and PCM from him or any other supplier. If you also want to save I suggest watching the for sale forum at LS1tech.com or browsing Ebay for the correct wire harness and PCM. As for the intake, you can probably get a good deal on a take-off or used LS2 intake and TB. Then you will have to decide if you want to run drive-by wire or a cable driven TB.

      Edit:

Also, if you get your stock harness and PCM modified then you won't need to buy HP tuners until you start modding the motor (heads/cam etc) HP tuners is just tuning software and does NOT come with an ECU. Also John's prices are probably $2K because he includes a new wire harness (not stock modified) correct flashed PCM for your specific motor and the complete drive-by wire setup with gas pedal assembly and all.

      Thanks,

i've started looking at the whole deal and i really like the carb idea. I guess its the easy way out for now as i want to run this summer and there is still much work to do (cut the housing, do all the lines-brake and fuel, assemble the engine combo and put it in install the trans etc!!!) And i will need all the swap parts for the LS2 when it shows up anyway, so i might as well start buying...(I just can't see the wheels and tires in my office at home anymore!!!!! and no i wont let them loose in the garage )

Tranny wise, i guess a 700R4 would be ideal no? I have a buddy who has one lying around. Comments???

Are you aware if i need anything else to run the engine if i get the MSD 6LS box and Intake set up? (except fuel to it).

I'm thinking an around .600 lift cam w/ 240 dur on 112 w/ Vic Jr intake and MSD coils. 700R4 w/ 2800-3000 stall. Hooker super comps, Nasty perf V-covers and Meziere w/pump.

      IT needs to RUN NOW!

      There's no distributor. Remember that.

      And?

The MSD Unit replaces the distributor to fire the sparks. No need for one.

...Or you can run a front cover with a Ford Dist. But i like the MSD set up.

      I have never heard that.

I have also heard that the MSD coils are not any better than the factory ones, so IMO if you have the factory coils just use them.

GMPP offers a front cover and distributor for the LSx. And yes, the distributor is Ford dimensioned.

      Thanks John,

I had seen the cover. Nice piece.

Hey, 'care to share a bit of what your using if i may? I REALLY like the set up you have (look and all) and would like to duplicate it "kinda", and only kinda, as its out of my budget for now (and no fear that you see my car next to yours--Montreal Canada!) on a smaller (C.I) scale. I'm new to EFI and like it, but its such a mess for me... Do you need the original ECU and or harness with the Holley set up? I only have an '05 6.0L long block and accessories i picked up for 500$. What is needed?

Also, the only pic i have of your finished motor is the spread out picture, i went to you website and found nothing, any others available?

On the coils, i read they are built to work with a programmer that lets you tailor everything about the ignition curves but can't confirm on this one....Altough i'm SERIOUSLY working on this.

I have my list ready to fire to Jegs!

I thought ECM had to be for the reluctor wheel on the crank. You can swap Gen 3 (Ls1/Ls6/LQ4/LQ9) knock sensors etc on to a Gen 4 (Ls2/Ls7/L92) block. HP Tuners was working on being able to run a Gen 4 reluctor wheel on a Gen 3 ECM but I did not think they had it working. You may want post on HP Tuners forum.

      Gen3 engines(LS1, LS6, LR4, LM7, L59, LQ9, etc, etc, 4.8,5.3,5.7,6.0truck) use a 24x crankshaft reluctor wheel and a rear mount(standard chevy distributor position) camshaft sensor. Gen4 engines(LS2,LS7,L92,L76 etc,etc, 6.0car, alloy 6.0 truck, 6.2 and 7.0) use a 60-2x(58x) crank reluctor wheel and a cam sensor mounted on the front of engine near timing cover.

The knock sensors were relocated from the valley cover to the block sides on the Gen4, this is merely a wiring issue, the cam sensor and crnak sensor issues are more serious and require the proper ECM, you can mix and match
