      Which Tranny?

I have a fresh 455 making 525hp 550 ft lbs going into my '69 Firebird project. The rear will be a Ford 9". It currently has 3.89 gears, but considering switching to 3.55s. It will be a street car, no slicks.

My initial thought was a TKO-600, but am a bit nervous about what I have read here lately.

What would you recommend for this setup?

      Regards,

      Phil

You should be fine with a TKO-600.

TKO-600. It should nearly bolt in, and is the best tranny you'll find for that kind of torque under $2000.

You might have a slight issue with the tranny tunnel or crossmember, but the boys Classic Chevy 5 Speed can fix you up.

Yes, I was actually considering their conversion kit.
