It's a beautiful piece. But for $8600 (with brakes)...is it really all that better than the stock frame with the right modifications made?

I would love to see a side by side comparison of one of these frames against the frame that is on Camaro X or the Red Witch or anything that Dave Pozzi has slung around a road course.

Are they really all that better?

I guess we will find out in September. It's confirmed. Kyle is bringing their "Test Car" to our Run Thru The Hills event in Pigeon Forge. So we will have direct comparison of a variety of different chassis configurations. Same track, same weather, same clock.

Jason Huber's "Fuel" is probably the closest comparison. It has an upgraded OE clip with a DSE Quadra-link out back. Same wheel/tire sizes too.

More importantly, we'll see a bunch of different configurations running together.

I think that's bit far to bring my car.. lol

Subframe shootouts are the toughest thing ever to pull off fairly. There are so many variables such as driver, tire condition and type, unsprung weight, and a host of other varialbles.

The best way would be to take a stock car.. baseline it. Add the company X subframe with a few other mods like wheels, tires, rear susp upgrades then test. Then take Company Z's sub and swap it in using all the same supporting parts. Same driver, same track and if possible the same day or at least the same weather.

I wonder it there's a scientific way to measure a subframe. Could test rigidity, geometry and do other simulations. I bet it's possible but super expensive.

I can't wait to check out the subframe in person.

Well then....what's PHR waiting for? And don't say money. Primedia has plenty of it. They buy the frames, and the car. Run the tests (rigidity, elapsed time, lateral-g) and then sell everything when it's finished. The money it would end up costing them in the end would be comparable to the coins that are lying under the cushions of your favorite sofa. Of all the parts I see tested in magazines...this would be probably the most anticipated and highly talked about one ever.

What a great idea.. unfortunatly I don't see it happening anytime soon. The best we can hope for is to test as many cars as we can with different subframes and see how they do.

I will be running Penny thorugh the PHR gauntlet of tests, so that will give a clue. I'm sure DSE tests the hell out of thier stuff.

Here's the deal with "shootouts".. Mfg's really don't want to be a part of one since there ends up only being ONE happy company and a bunch of ticked off ones. And this one would have so many variables that any "losing" company could call foul for some reason.

The logistics of buying 5-6 $7,000 ($42,000) and then the install and track time is way more than anyone wants to tackle.

This isn't like testing cylinder heads or carbs.. How much time does it take to swap subframes? Anyways, it's a great idea on paper.

The other way to do this is to try and test many cars with different set-ups on the same course and compare the handling data.

Personally.. I don't mind seeing welds if they are done nice. I have some parts welded by Matt and they absolutly bitchen to look at. Same with the welds on my 21st Century Subframe.

Welds can be art or look like crud.. depends on the welder
