      Clutch Fork Spring

Hoping someone will chime in who owns a Camaro or Nova with a 502 and TKO 500-600. I recently bought my TKO600 from Classic Chevy 5 Speed and the compnay they order there clutch linkages and pedals was backordered on springs for the clutch fork. So when i get mine, where did any of you attach the spring to! I know one end goes to the fork and the other originally went to manifold studs, but I have headers and need to know what some of you did for attaching it to the block! What kind of bracket was required to fab up?

I know that some of you with the 502 had to buy Scoggin Dickeys ball stud braclet and I have done the same. And some of have spaced out the frame bracket for the Z bar but I am planning on having the center inch cut out of Z bar and welded back together for a lilttle cleaner look on the frame bracket. Thanks guys

      Hi Justin
You can fab up a spring and a steel rod (a heavy coat hanger will do). Bend the rod to form a hook for the fork end then a loop on the other end and hook the spring to anything handy. The thin rod will sneak through the tight spots without hitting anything. You may have to fab up a bracket or something to hook the spring to. I've seen stainless worm screw type hose clamps used on a header tube to form a mounting point or you may have a better spot that's more direct. As long as it doesn't touch anything to cause a rattle or scratch something expensive it should work fine.

On my GTO I was using a reproduction clutch return spring. I was having all kinds of weird problems with the clutch. After I looked at everything very carefully, I came to realize that the clutch return spring was pulling the fork so hard, that is was actually causing the retaining clip to flex and the fork to come off the pivot ball. This inturn cause the throw out bearing to contact the spring fingers. Not good. I took the spring off, carefully adjusted the linkage and have not had any issues without the spring.

      Just my 2 cents.
