      Project Duration

How long has it taken you all to finish your cars? Mine has been complete, then got taken apart again 2 years ago. It has suffered (benifited?) from severe scope creep in the meantime. What started as an engine pull to detail the engine and install a t56 has turned into a two year project, and I have not even started on the quadralink yet.

Finish?!?! We are supposed to ever be finished. I just get glad when it becomes drivable between "remodelings". There will ALWAYS be something to change. Especially when the "well, since I am doing this, I might as well do . . ." starts coming into the equation.

Do you still believe in all the things that you stood by before? Are you out there on the front lines, or at home keeping score?
Do you care to be the layer of the bricks that seal your fate? Would you rather be the architect of what we might create?

I take my car apart every winter for upgrades or every five years for makeovers--whichever comes first.

I bought my car around april of 2004...so that would put me at 2 years and counting.

It's only been undriveable for around 2 months of that, total, though! So that's a plus.

7 years for the Camaro. Got the Bird for 2.5 years and upgrade every winter, almost on the road again!

I tore down my chevelle for a quick 3 week exterior freshening up in Oct. 2000. I finally brought it home last night. Yeah, a little over schedule.

Obviously the "Might as wells" got hold of the project in a big way. I do have new sneakers coming from newstalgia and have the majority of my brake setup waiting in the garage. Progress at last! If I hadn't built so many cars in between, I'd have a pretty wicked ride by now!

I started in 2001, so it's been 5 years and I'm finally at the half way point. I probably have another 3 or 4 years to go. Money, man....it's money. What can you do? If I had the money it'd be done by now.

Its the irony of life, back when I had time, I had no money, now that I can afford some parts, I have no time.

Trapin I feel your pain. I bought my '56 in 2001 and then a few months later learned my wife was pregnant with our daughter. Needless to say I have been slowly piecing the car together ever since (going on 5 years now).
Next up, body work; and at shop rates more than double my salary I am not too excited.

Let's see, I parked the Camaro in the winter of 1993 due to a bad heater core. Being in college at the time and no time to fix it, I left it sit. Started tearing it down around 1995ish? Graduated, bought a house, got married, four kids later....

My 5 year plan is now a 10 year plan. But, I do drive it generally during the year and work during the winter.

allmost 8 years....of that time I used it as a daily for about 1.5year....then I started over and I guess it will be another year before it's "finished".

I think my project scope has changed at least a dozen times over that period.... (dammn magazines and PT.com...)

I started the search for a car at 14, didn't actually have the Camaro in my posession until 16 (took 9 months after the sale to sort out title issues and delivery).

It's coming along very sloooowly, lol. I had to store it for the better part of the last year due to various issues. Working on the bodywork now, hope to have it done within the next month or so, but after that I'm not sure how long it's going to take to get things done. Depends on how long it takes to get a workspace.

      Lets see...
Bought in '97 after a deployment. '98 Had a leaky intake valve on #6 (of 6), so I figured "I'll just rebuild the head", then i figured since the head is off, I'll redo the bottom end. Well- might as well do the trans since it's out. OK- those control arm bushings are easy to get to..... fast fwd to 99. Away for 10 mos out of the year. 2000? Gone 6 mos. 2001? Deployed one week before the dumbasses hit the twin towers. yeah- 2001 and 2002 were very busy. 2003? back out across the pond again until 2004. mid-2005 shore duty...kinda. I'm not getting the time off like I thought I would (ask any servicemember, particularly Navy- The'll tell ya shore duty just means your on another waiting list to deploy)

So- I'd say 8-ish years, three different configurations. '05 Decided WTF, I'm going to do it how I want to. target completion: fall / winter 2006. Hopefully I'll have enough time to enjoy it before our Uncle calls again.
