The LT1 T56 came in the 93-97 F body (Camaro/Trans Am) and then switched to LS1 style T56 in 98-02. They are the same T56 between the different models.

The LT1 style is the easiest to adapt to a SBC or BBC.

You are really better off to use a t56 from an LT1. If you do use the LS1 style T56, I believe McLeod makes the correct bellhousing. I am sure Tyler has a lot more detailed information.

You need this adapter plate: http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

and this extended pilot bushing: http://store.summitracing.com/egnsea...2&autoview=sku

You can then use any standard (not LT1 or LSx) bellhousing, clutch, pressure plate, flywheel and the mechanical or hydraulic clutch linkage of your choice.

Not without modifications. The T56 has a different bolt pattern than the older MUncie/Borg Warner 4 speeds.

      Check out this website:

There is a lot of information in terms of dimensions and pictures of various transmissions. Once you see it all, it might be a little more clear for you.

You can use a muncie bellhousing with the adapter plate and pilot bushing listed bellow. I am using my old muncie bellhousing with manual linkage and an LS1 style T56

I'm with Midnight - I'm using the same adapter plate and it was incredibly easy to adapt all of the old clutch linkage using the Muncie-style bellhousing. Make sure you get the pilot bushing, too. I didn't (long story) and had to pull everything back out to get the correct one in there before I could even thing about firing the engine up.

Hi Thanks for al the good answers.

Mabye I was a bit unclear I ment with the adapter plate and munice bellhousing.

Which fly wheel and clutch can I run. Can I run a orginal fly wheel to the sbc. Or does it have to be Lt1 or something else expensive.

Were do you buy the clutch and the adapter is summit the cheapest or is there some were better to do my shopping.

Do i have to use the original clutch linkage or can I go hyudralic with the mcleod adapter plate.

Summit is pretty much the cheapest source I'm aware of in the US. Once you get the adapter plate, everything else can be whatever you want for a "normal" SBC that will work with your bellhousing. Specifically you don't have to use LT1 parts (they won't work). You can run the original flywheel and clutch if you want (asuming they're in good condition). You'll need a 26 spline clutch disk. You can use either a mechnical linkage or a hydraulic linkage FOR A STANDARD SBC. The LT1 linkage won't work. I don't know if an LS1 hydraulic throwout bearing/linkage would work. It might, but you'll be installing and uninstalling the T56 several times if it doesn't just all fall into place for you. Myself, I'd go mechanical if it's already in the car and get a heim joint linkage like this:http://www.speeddirect.com/index.aspx?nodeID=34
