      OK,

Now I know where all the Northerners get their material for the Redneck jokes!!! Are you kidding me??? This video takes the cake for me!! This kid can't be more than 7 years old. Turn up the volume to hear the commentary from dear ole dad!!

Kid is knocked on his butt and the a-hole can only think of the duck.
I'm all for hunting and firearms but that was just dumb.

Well I have to say I was wrong on what I said above, I reviewed the vid several times and it sounds like he actually did ask his son if he was OK. It is hard to pick up but I believe that is what he was asking. It was certainly my fault for not taking the time to rewatch the video.

kids stance was all wrong is all. he had bad footing. Thats a tiny gun.

you guys are popping off not knowing anything about how much training or gun safety training either of them have. I hunted at 7 with my dad. I fell on my ass too. At least his dad, (like mine) remained encouraging the whole time, and the kid was clearly enjoying his time with his father. I saw nothing wrong with the vid except a kid who didnt stand correctly.

See my above post, I feel like I owe the father in the vid an apology. I watched the vid and didn't take the time to really LOOK at it and fired off what I felt. After carefully watching it again I realize I was in the wrong.

RIT......Redneck In Training. Maybe next time, when the recoil knocks the kid over, the gun will discharge and hit the moron with the video camera.

      Tony L ,

You may have been hunting with your father at a very young age, but I bet if you showed him that video he would probably tell you that he would have never done that with you. As far as "training" goes... I doubt that guy had any. Most of the "training" people get is passed down from generation to generation. I am willing to bet if you search back this guys family tree, there would be links to many a close call in the back wood dialogues. I dont fault the kid by any means cause kids are kids. I do however fault the father for putting his son in a situation that he is CLEARLY not ready to handle!!

      Just my 02 cents!!

What exactly are basing the statement, they have no training on? The guy has an accent? the child is young? or that he stood poorly?

I see a hunter and his son, hunting. recoils happen. Hell, I've been knocked down by a gun and a misstep as an adult. And I'm military trained and an expert marksman, i've got the medals to back that up. To see this video out of context and make the judgments made here saddens me alot. Because the kid made a mistake, his dad is a fool, and the kid isnt ready? It should be noted the as the kid hit the ground, he was asking "did i get him?" and his dad stayed positive the whole time.

I choose to err on the side the dad took the right precautions dads take when they take thier kids hunting, and despite that, the kid fell.

Oh. and its a single shot shotgun. its impossible for it to discharge and then be dropped and discharge again. it's got one shell in it. Thats the whole point of that type gun. its a "trainer" gun. That kid just got a lesson in sure footing.

And the dad made a point of telling the kid to pick up the gun. When he held it he seemed to have a regard for "down and away". Not perfect, but definitely taught. The problem is all int he movement. The kid has a good footing initially, but loses it when he swings too far. Often a mistake by MANY, regardless of age. I can't tell you how many skeet shooters I've seen over swing and take out the launchers in the oppsite house! Or not tuck the gun properly and end up with a huge bruised shoulder.
As an Eagle scout (now a Scoutmaster) and a Trap/Skeet shooter I have been taught and teach gun safety. I agree with Tony, the only thing wrong here is too much swing, often caused by a nervous finger.

Do you still believe in all the things that you stood by before? Are you out there on the front lines, or at home keeping score?
Do you care to be the layer of the bricks that seal your fate? Would you rather be the architect of what we might create?

Most states require some kind of gun safety course, to get tags. Most people wouldnt be caught hunting without them. Couple that, with the guy hunting with an armed kid, and he'd be crazy not to have the tags. A game warden is sure to stop and check if they get spotted. At least that's how it is here.

They wouldn’t be hunting with out training its illegal you need a hunter’s safety card to get a tag for bird hunting in every state I’ve lived in. Fish and game patrols regularly and would land them at least a ride to the station and a hefty fine for poaching. I'd be proud that kid didn’t start crying from getting knocked on his rear like most of the very soft youth of today would. I don’t know about you guys but when I was his age I wasn’t made of glass, my mom didn’t take me to the ER every time I scraped my knee like today’s youth. Some of you people are far more ignorant then you THINK they are. These are people that enjoy the great out doors. You may thing they are sheltered but I beg to differ. I think the kid who is addicted to video games, and the father who doesn’t know how to take his son camping are the people who are sheltered

Tony, I am not EX military? Many of my friends are. I am an above average marksman. I can out shoot most of them. Dad started with me at 5. Not hunting, just plinking at the junkpile and firearm safety, he did the same for my older brother. At 8 we both got the kick down of a single twelve with light loads in it. I never got into killing animals, I love target ranges( ex Fort Knoxx 500 range, now public range 45 minutes away!!! Yes, I got one sighted in at 500 pretty damn good? I also shoot a lot of clay birds!

I agree, it was handled well! Lesson learned!

Just had to let you know your not alone on your stance. Ya seemed out numbered?

Have you ever heard "Country boy can survive" by Hank Williams Jr? So true! That guy was doing good, very good! Redneck or not, that guy has a bond with his kid that most people nowdays do not have. And is prolly (just speculating) living the values that this country was founded on. Which are what most of the libs are trying to take from us. He is young and surely can't control a gun in hunting situations, we must take it from him and send his dad to jail to protect him!! Gimmie a break!!

I guess there are views on BOTH sides of this topic. I am not so closed minded to not respect others views that are different than mine. I guess we will have to "agree to disagree" on this one and leave it at that!!

On a side note....shmoov69.... I would venture to say that I dont think Hank Williams Jr, or ANY COWBOY would "survive" too well in places like East LA, the Bronx,or parts of New Jersey. Probably have no problem on BROKE BACK MOUNTAIN though.(sorry I couldnt resist)

Wow reading some of these posts i realize why there is now a whole generation of bike helmet wearing.. no gravel on the play ground...no dodge ball playin pansies coming up.
I took worse spills on a swing set than that kid did with the pea shooter of a gun.

I would also like to point out that this kid got knocked on his ass pretty good and didnt even once cry b|tch or complain about it in any way, unlike some liberal raised, lollipop sucking whiner who cries about every little insignificant thing and is taught that everything dangerous should be avoided or banned, when they SHOULD be taught that everything dangerous should be respected. Which, it seems, this father is doing nicely.

Yup but if the kid did cry he probably would have to spend the night locked and chained to the outhouse where the critters would crawl all over him. Its true!! I read it in the red neck handbook!! ahuh ahuh huh!!!
