LS2 questions from a long idle project

      • A story as old as time: kids, work, wife, and, no time for a project.
      • I bought a non running 1971 Nova back in 2005 when my son was 2 years old, he just started his second year of college. I have been reSTORING it ever since, never even driven it as the stock 307 was no good.
      • Back in 2010/11 I got it in my head to do a LSx and in 2011 I bought a salvage 2006 LS2 GTO through Copart.
      • As it has now been over 11 years since I pulled the LS2 form the GTO I have forgotten so much that I had researched and planned and certainly don't recall the details of the removal.
      • I would really like to put this LS2 into the Nova in the next week or two but need some help figuring some things out that would otherwise take me countless hours of research to figure out on my own.
      • I have been the butt of joke about this Nova for so many years and would love to make some progress on it.

So if anyone can look through the attached and lend a hand it would be much appreciated, especially the vacuum types of questions (#1-7).

Starting to figure some stuff out:
      1: Yes, I will keep
2: I will repair and keep
      3: Air intake after MAF?
4: Engine Coolant Hose to radiator ancillary port
      5: RH=Brakes which I will use
      6: EVAP Canister
      7: LH=HVAC which I will cap off.
8: I see they make a cooler line release tool, $29 on Amazon...
9: I remembered I had a fuel line tool from long ago and separated this so good here.
10/11/12: O2 sensors (another not shown)
      13: MAF sensor
      14: A/C pressure sensor?
      15: ?????? <<< Connector
      16: ?????? <<< Connector
      17: ?????? <<< Connector

Also I ordered Holly motor mounts, oil pan, and trans crossmember so I hope it all works out when I install the brake booster, steering box, and headers.

Hopefully you get the answers you need and get your project on the road. Don’t get discouraged.

Have you seen this guys videos on YouTube.
Not an LS2 but should be all the same with any LS. https://youtu.be/MRDeJH8wevQ

Glad to hear you're getting back on track. I used an aftermarket wiring harness and ECM, didn't use a GM ECM so I can't help you with all the extra wiring stuff but will recommend that you post up some identifying wiring questions to these websites. Hopefully someone will chime in there or here.

If using the engine as is the tune should be okay but VAT's will have to be disabled- vehicle anti theft.
Another option is to use wiring harness from this company.

For mounts I would try this kit from Holley, one stop shopping.

I didn't use the Holley stuff but alot of guys do, I used some pieces from ICT billet for engine mounts and accessory drive cause I had none, nice quality priced right.

Sometimes when using a low mount alternator the frame might need to be notched, I did it just in case.

For PS stuff I just went ahead and made a new 6an line from the box to the pump but you could use this fitting if you want to use the stock Nova line. Sometimes twisting the line to the pump can be a problem. Metric fitting on the pump.

Headers, I used Hooker mid length ceramic coated ones, they fit good and gave me good ground clearance to avoid scrapping. I have a Delphi 600 steering box that's smaller than stock. Hooked up to my SBC exhaust with some extra pieces. My to do list for next year includes a stainless system but need to find a good TIG welder that is reasonable.

Personally, I would get a Holley Terminator X Max kit and ditch the old engine wiring and stock ECU.

For the mounts, Holley also has some very nicely engineered components for your chassis.
