We just finished up some more destructive testing.

I cant say anything right now, but the numbers are going to surprise even the most skeptical critiques. I mean........ really - really surprise. You could even associate the results with the word "overkill".

Just wait until Shane has finished writing up his engineering analysis and lays it all out.

Well guys here's the deal. We have finished our initial testing and gave the go on the machining. We are about a week out to start filling and sending out the pre-orders. Thus far it looks like the initial run of Tall AFX sets are already spoken for. We will have another production run of 100 sets of both the Tall and Stock heights which should be available roughly in about a month. SOOOO if you are serious I would suggest emailing me your contact info to get on the pre-order list because from our response thus far they will most likely go pretty quick: [email protected]

Obviously the tall version is more sought after due to the geometry benefits, but those that still want the other added benefits and do not want to change your geometry from having done say a gulstrand mod should be able to get in on the few initial stock height sets available in about a week.

We are also getting very close on finalizing the A and G Body platforms and should have something available for those as well in roughly 6-8 weeks. We've had such a great response on these that we kinda got hit by storm, but we HAD to make sure that all the bases were covered not only for your safety, but to guarentee your confidence in a high quality part. The time now is very, very close. If you have any questions that the search function fails to answer (there have been a few very detailed posts on these), please feel free to call us.

As for all the design and engineering we will be contributing information to do an article for one of the magazines, so look for a full write up in a few months.

I hate to even say this but-
We are already back ordered. We have all production sets spoken for and reserved on pre-orders. We just ordered 200 more sets to try and keep up with the demand, but it will be a few weeks longer for them, as they will need to be forged, and machined. If you are on our pre-order list, your sets will be shipping shortly.
As far as the destuctive testing goes, let's just say you could hang a semi-truck off the spindle with no ill effects.

Wow check out the post times on those two responses form the ATS crew. I guess if AFX is spoken or typed we are magically drawn to the source.

Yeah basically one test that was done for the destructive testing we simulated wheel loads with a pretty elaborate fixture and a 40 ton hydraulic press riddled with some dial indicator guages. I can tell you that we loaded the spindle multiple times even up to 10 tons with zero plastic deformation (back to zeros on all the dial indicators). That should give you an idea as to there rigidity. Their failure point was significantly north of that. More will be spoken of in the magazine article. Stay tuned.

Where would the most likely failure point be in the rest of the suspension?

      Good one, Mark!

I was wondering if the next weakest point might be one of the control arm attachment points, ball joint stud, etc. Looks like the AFX spindle is our equivalent to an airplane black box that's recoverable after a crash! I mean that in a good way

      Shane,
We should compare notes on static spindle testing.

      Matt,

      PM Sent.

Rick, I would probably say either the ball joint or the end of the LCA where the ball joint inserts, but keep in mind that your car will never see loads anywhere close to this.

Not quite sure what your asking??? I'm assuming you mean for the G body platform based on your screen name? Please elaborate.

Sorry about that, I got a 1987 olds cutlass supreme that I am driving right now.

When you guys make the spindles, do I have to use a Hotchkis or Global West a-arm to use with the you spindles?

Yes if you use the tall spindle its basically like going to a B-body spindle without the added downfalls so any UCA for a B-body spindle will work and be required to prevent binding since due to the added height they need to be shorter. We will also be releasing UCA's specifically for the tall spindle for both A and G bodies.

sorry if it has been already covered but i diddn't see my exact question answered. are there any pitfalls to using the taller spindle and a dse control arm, or would i be better using a standard height spinle with this a-arm

Aftermarket control arms like the one from Global West and DSE give you added caster. When combined with our tall AFX spindle, you now get the increased camber gain, which is what you will notice the most when driving the car.

      Simple answer:
They will work in perfect harmony together.
