      Castellana Chevelle?

Caught a glimpse of it in Hot Rod's 10-best but missed the issue it was in. Can't seem to find pics of it on Hot Rod's site. Anyone have photos of it?

It's a top ten car but it can't keep all four wheels on the ground. If one of your tires is two feet off the ground while the other three are planted: Something's wrong.

I think it means that your outside tires are getting some serious traction, or you just ran over those bump strip things on the inside of the track.

It did appear as if that car was running slicks.

Sure the traction is the cause, but the result is chassis twist. Works good for a dirt car but not a road race car.

3 tires works fine for some

A local SF SCCA road racer told me a few weeks ago that the fastest line through a corner, as taught to him by the national champion in their class, usually required the front inside tire to be inside of the track edge, sometimes even over the dirt. Since the front inside tire was generally off the ground at the apex, the corner line was shortened by hanging it out over the inside edge of the track, and no usable traction was lost. Will I try this? Probably not, as I have street vehicles and do not plan to push them to the point of whiping out and wrecking. Then again, corners that have open areas for safety may allow me to try this at a track someday, as the possible spinout that may be waiting for me will not dent anything...

Sorry, I checked hotrod.com and there is no picture posted.

Hey, I'm THRILLED to see a down & dirty streetfighter make top ten, but that car is just wrong. It ain't jumping a curb. It's twisting under combined lateral and accelerative forces like a sprint car or dirt late model. You can see the door/fender/quarter tweaking. The whole car is flopping around like a boneless chicken.

Steve, he stated in the article that the picture with the L/F weel airborne was done just for show.

OK, quote from the article. "A touch less roll stiffness, perhaps? Peter swears there isn't really anything wrong with the setup. He just tightened up his line and hit the gas harder to make for a great, wheel lifting spectacle".

Does the chassis exhibit a bit too much roll stiffness, maybe? He does run regularly with the Ferrari club out at Pocono. Passing a Lambo and a 512 at 160+ takes quite a car. This is definitely not slapped together half ass project.

Man! Dennis I just noticed your scans after I went digging through all my mags AND scanned the pages! Oh well, here's one of the specs anyways!

Also, I don't care what anyone says this car could probably whip at least 90% of the people on this board on a road coarse. Purpose built I love it!

I love that car. Plus hes a new yawhka.

I dont believe half the crap in magazines about who whipped what. He might blow by ferraris because he is a good driver with a lot of seat time.

He could probably whip our most of our asses.

Steve, if we ever get our track day together, hes invited. BTW, it looks like pocono could do the job, I think that was what you told me originally. Good idea.

and he happens to have a car that will pull a Ferarri at 160MPH+ with an aerodanamically challanged vehicle.

Wicked, sorry but I gotta point out something here. "He'd probably whip 90% of blah blah blah." If that's the case why are there no lap times in the article. They guy says he has a porsche and ferraris yet it dosent say if he is faster in the Chevelle, if so by how much. The "stories" about passing a Ferrari or Lambo are just that, stories.

This reminds me of the story that was in PHR with the '68 with the big wing on the back. The author waxed eloquently about how very fast the car is "said" to be at Sears Point. Yet......you guessed it. No lap times.

Not to say that anyone is full of beans, but unless you (meaning the authors and car owners) can prove the car is fast with real numbers, it isn't. It's all just bench racing.

Yes it's "purpose built" but that dosen't mean it's built well (the LF 2' off the ground hints at otherwise) and it dosen't mean he can drive it.

True the majority of cars on this site have not seen the track. (mine included)

David pozzi seems to lead the way in track time and I know a lot of you guys go to willow, but most cars here are really nice street cars.Thats not an insult, by the way.

I have "heard" that guy is pretty quick in that car, no lap times but hes not a wanker.

My point was that the chevelle does get hammered and seat time goes a long way.

That doesnt mean I would tremble if I see him at an open track day.

You are right about magazine articles, I also noticed there were no lap times in the article on the winged 69.

Say a guy buys a brand new vette, takes it to the track for the first time. A guy who runs his neon every weekend passes the guy in the vette. Guy in the neon will tell anyone who will listen how he "smokes vettes at the track."

By the way, I am not saying you are wrong, I usually agree with you on everything. I just dont want to pick apart a car that "walks the walk". Does that make sense?
