      Thoughts on this engine.

Been battling the ls v bbc for months.

Think I like this set up.
      Comes tuned with efi.

And I think I’d toss on a wet NO system
      for 1/4m days.

It is a great set-up, but still as heavy as a big block. I worked with the GM Marine group that has close ties to GM Performance. The controller they use to use, and may still use, is very simple and effective. This is really a good motor if you want to go the big block route.

I am a small block fan myself, but have always been impressed with the torque a big block can generate. Even a good 396 can generate more torque than a 400 small block due to the large ports and valves.

What are you putting it in and do you intend to compete with it in autocross events?

For that kind of money, I would do a new LT4 any day, and twice on Sunday. Holley already has a LT pan that is compatible with a-bodies (you will need a different pan for the 502 as well) and I know they are in the process of making all the other swap components (mounts, headers, etc...) Heck, for all I know, they are showing them at SEMA as I type...

Since you're not competing in an autocross event where weight is a performance factor I would go with a Big Block. I think a big block would look pretty sexy sitting in that engine bay. Personally, I think the looks of a new gen motor just don't look right. I'm a guy that likes the old look. No, I am not against the new new gen motors, a matter of fact I have several cars with LS motors. I just think the old school motors look a lot better in a muscle car.

I have the SB GM RamJet (350 cu) and really like it. A ready to go, reliable EFI set up, with relatively basic ECU and built to run on pump gas. Mine has 350 hp/400 lb-ft torque and has plenty of power, the BB sounds like a beast.

You can can way more for your buck than that. Do an old 489/496 BBC with a FITECH EFI and have more power, for less $. Shoot me a PM with any questions, I have a 71 Chevelle with a 675HP 496CI !

      Bbc

Hard to beat the look of a BBC when you peak under the hood.

Whenever I see a BB car I think he should have gone LS or now LT. The performance and reliability along with fuel economy can’t be beat. I like the looks too but I’m not one to focus on underhood appearance because no one can see what you have when you are running down the road.

I agree somewhat and I will think sometimes about going the LS route until I drive it and then the LS thoughts fade away until I stop for gas. The LS or LT definitely has its advantages.
