Thanks for that tip, I'll keep it in mind when the time comes.

I used a reverse flow (counter clockwise rotation) long water pump, it was a flow cooler, they're about $75. Getting a new steering pump wouldn't hurt, and now would be the time to do it. If you want to play it safe that everything is there and is new, GM offers the set in a kit here's a link to Summit's site for it http://store.summitracing.com/partde...9&autoview=sku
It has it all in the kit, but it's $750

The camaro water pump does not have provisions for heater hoses. If you are happy with OEM stuff, get a pump for a 1988 chevy truck with a 305 (it has the standard heater hose fittings and is reverse flow). I had the 88-92 f body serp on my old set up (SBC) and never had any cooling problems (nothing exotic). As for the serp set up, it all boils down to how much bling you want in your engine compartment (OEM vs aftermarket).

Another great tip on the water pump. Thanks chris. This has been a good thread. polishing the brackets on the oem version is a good idea also. Has anyone done that? As long as we're on the subject is there a way to test an A/C compressor off the car?

Nice call of the s10 belt. I will remember that. I am actually doing the same thing this winter to my 77. I like a factory look over the billet bling factor, in most cases. Plus parts are an AutoZone away.

I have a line on a setup out of an iroc and hopefully that will come through. I plan on custom making the AC lines to work for my app. Do the water pumps spin the other direction on these setups? That may be something to note. Know the donor vehicle for things like the pumps & tensioner (they go bad). (edit: d'oh, didn't read page 2 ) How are Camaro heater hoses plumbed if not off the pump?

Also, my 4.3L 1993 K1500 pickup has a serp setup, so remember full sized trucks for donors too, V6 and V8s.

The tpi heat is plumbed from the heater core, to the throttle body to the intake on one side. The other side gets plumbed right to the radiator.
      As for the v-6's, make sure it's a 90 degree v6, not a 60 degree v6. They use a different setup.

Right. My truck is a 4.3L. I don't think full sized trucks got 60* v6s, but camaros and small trucks did.

I went with the VA FrontRunner unit for the 502 - I think it looks better than the March unit too. I think it was like $1700, but that includes the small A/C compressor, 140amp alternator, and reverse flow water pump. I love how it mounts the compressor and alternator in close to the heads.

      Fullsize trucks got all 90* motors (v8/v6) Smaller trucks got the 60* and the 90* v6's, F-bodies got 60* v6's and 90* v8's
