      Serpintine Pully Systems

Who has one? Where'd you get it, and how much did it cost you?

Are there pros and cons to different ones?

I need one for a small block chevy, with power steering and A/C. And i need it quickly.

Just looking for some people to share their experiances so I can make the most informed choice. Im leaning to the vintage air system. But billet specialities has a nice one too.

I'm running a stock GM '88-'92 serpentine setup from an F-body. It isn't a big dollar setup, but it works well and is the most cost effective IMO. It was easy enough to delete the AIR pump and run a shorter belt. It'll be the quickest to find also, just drop by your local salvage yard. Average cost is $100-200 from a 'yard, probably less if you remove it yourself. Depending on the car you're installing it in, you might even be able to use the AC lines and condensor too. You can see some pics of mine on my site at www.bowtiepower.com.

      Here, check this out. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Serpe...QQcmdZViewItem

Just a tip also, If you ditch the air pump, instead of trying to measure for a new belt, get a belt for an 89 s-10 blazer with the 4.3 v-6. It used the same setup as the smallblock, and came from the factory without a smog pump.
The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.

IMO the vintage air kit is ugly as hell because its got the big squared off center brace. I have the March front runner kit on my 4.3 and love it

hey toxic thanks for the tip on the belt. I'll remember that. I don't see the crank pulley on the one on ebay. Something else on those fbody serpentine systems. You can replace the stock low amperage alternator on that guy with the heavy duty 140 amp job. It requires a very small amount of grinding on the case in a couple places is all.

Yeah, I'm gonna go buy one of those belts tomorrow while it's still fresh. I just finished cleaning up this setup I've got for a project I'm working on.

for the guys that did the 88 and later pulley setup. Which water pump are you running? Should I also grab the new powersteering pump while i'm at it?

I had a March setup on my 350 and now have street & performance on the LS1. I personally liked the looks of the march better....but both are nice.

I've been running a VA Frontrunner since June and really like it. Easy installation, too.
March Performance has a history of fitment problems and I think they are ugly. Just my opinion, though.

Has anybody tried the Tru Trac from Billet Specialties? I am working with Magnacharger, and they said that the Tru Trac system is designed to work with one belt.

i used all the parts form a 92 camaro, PS pump, alt, water pump, and AC compressor. I ditched the camaro smog pump and ran a different belt. as mentioned i have it all but the crank pulley. The good thing is you can buy aftermarket pulleys to for the TPI set up and all the other parts can be polished!!!
