Holley Terminator LS Kit..anyone using it?

      https://www.holley.com/products/fuel.../parts/550-609

Thoughts on this? I've been debating over this the last few days for my set-up and wanted to see if anyone else has one? Ready to pull the trigger lol.

I have a flashed PCM and modded harness in my car now and thought about jumping on this to switch things up.

I like the handheld screen and some of the functions it offers. Nothing wrong with my current set-up, I just want something a little different and easier to use.

I run it on my camaro and runs a lot better this way than with the msd controlling spark.

Also, FYI the Holley Terminator ecu's can be updated to Holley HP software.

that is a dominator ecu in that kit so you will have lots of input and output if you need. also can add dbw if you want. i have been looking at there ls kits as well.

Thanks, I ended up buying the kit yesterday :-)

I was looking at the drive by wire feature, I thought about adding it to do away with the sensors that are on the cable throttle body, But I can't find a cruise kit that will work with DBW on a terminator kit. But a universal rostra kit that works on cable driven throttle bodys will work perfectl for what I need. I gotta have cruise.

slowly making some progress, I made a bracket out of 16 ga steel and installed it in my dash area and mounted the ECU to that. I already have the wiring done inside the car and have the connector harness running to the motor. Been waiting for a LS6 intake I ordered to get here so that the hold up now.

Cleaned up the wiring to the VHX module while i had the dash off too. Still a rats nest, but it's a little cleaner now lol

Just curious, how are you running the VSS signal to your speedometer (or is yours GPS)? Im about the same point of the install on mine, although Im using the Terminator with the Throttle Body Injection, and I realize that while the ECU has inputs for things like coolant temp, oil pressure, and VSS from the trans, there is no output from the ECU to run to the gages. I got around this with the coolant temp by just running two senders, one to each cylinder head, and Im running a wet line oil pressure gage which only means the little hand held won't display oil pressure (no biggie), but with the 4L60E only having one VSS out, I haven't come up with a good way to split that VSS signal between the ECU and speedometer, short of actually splicing the harness. Thanks!!

There's a VSS signal output that you can set in the ECU. It's not enabled by default but the wire is already terminated on the plug of my kit. You go to the interface and tick the box to enable speedometer output and set the pulse per mile. I'm setting my to 4k ppm

Here's some more info on it

Yea, I got the same thing from the Tech guys at Holly....did your kit come with some sort of interface cable for your laptop?....mine did not and you can't activate that pin through the hand held. Additionally, Im learning as I go with pinning connectors here...whats the best way to connect a wire to that particular pin once you activate it? I still have trouble wrapping my head around the fact that you pay all this money for what is generally a very well thought out and put together system, and they don't include outputs for the speedometer?!?.....seems like quite the oversight to me, especially if all it takes is turning the output on in the ECU....

Im really trying to resist the urge to splice the output from the VSS sensor in the trans and split it between the ECU and the box Im running to turn the electrical output into a mechanical input for the factory speedometer....

I didn't get a usb interface cable with my kit. I'm glad you pointed this out as I had planned on using the hand held to do the programming.

Are you talking about crimping the wire to the pin before inserting it in the connector cavity? I have a full set of delphi crimpers I bought when I did my american auto wire harness.

Yeah I don't get why they didn't enable a speedometer function out of the box since 99% of people will most likely need a way to output to the speedo. I guess I am going to order a usb cable for my laptop now, which is also strange since they push the little touchscreen with the kits. You would think it would take the place completely of a laptop.

Ok...so I finally got my engine fired up and it's running pretty good. But here are a couple of issues off the top of my head that can be had with these kits

      1. LCD touchscreen they give you is useless. Like stated above the touchscreen is very very limited with it's functions. I started to set the parameters with the touchscreen and when i got to the injector group EV1 (group 5) wasn't an option. It only went to 1-4 group types.

This is strange since I bought this "kit" specifically for a LS1 motor, drive by cable with a 4L60e. I even got the EV1 injector harness with the kit. No OS was pre-loaded on the ECU.

I had to get my laptop out and load the V2 software on it, then open the base LS1 with 4L60e global folder, customize to my engine size and needs .....then upload it to the ECU.

Once I set the TPS setting, it started right up

      2. Transmission solenoid wire, when hooking up the manual stated that this wire should not be tied into the same ign switch feed as the ECU ign switch wire. So I put it on a different fused circuit on my AAW harness. The problem was that after the initial start up....my engine wouldn't shut off. Even with key turned to off position.

I freaked out, ended up unhooking battery pos and neg wires, still running. I grabbed a wrench and pulled the charge wire off the back of the alternator and that killed the motor. After doing some research it ended up being transmission ign wire. The solenoids were holding power and back feeding into the ign circuit. Making everything stay on.

Installing a blocking diode on that wire so that power can only flow to the transmission and not back out seemed to fix the issue.

I made a comment on the Holley forum about why Holley didn't put some protection for this in the transmission harness and someone replied that Holley follows the GM wiring and suggests to put a relay on that wire so it wouldn't back feed. They said that they leave the relay out so the customer can place the relay where they want.

I said this was a cop-out on Holleys part because my main harness has a relay sticking out of it and they could have easily done this with the transmission harness, especially for the price these kits cost. It seems relays are the "fix" for everything you have to do with these kits, yet they don't include any with them.

Lastly, that person said Holley follows the GM wiring......I built a modified factory harness before buying this kit and ran the transmission solenoid power wire to my stand alone fuse box and never needed a relay, and it was fine.

Any update on how she's running? Im hoping to get mine fired up this weekend....Ill be curious to see if my initial start up goes a little smoother because Im running the throttle body injection vs. the fuel rails with individual injectors or not.

One of the last things I have to do is decide how Im going to address getting that VSS signal to my speedometer...I think that Im going to use a couple of weather pack connectors and some extra wire I have laying around and make a "Y" harness to split the VSS output signal between the ECU and the speedometer....we'll see how that goes.....

It's running real good, I'm def happy with it, fired up the first time and holds strong.

Like I said before, I'm using one of the pin-outs to run a 4000 pulse signal to my elec speedometer. Works great

awesome! thats good to hear that you're happy with it. when/if you have a chance, could you let me know what cable you used to connect your laptop to the ECU, and what version of the software you downloaded off the web site? Additionally, which pin did you activate and how do you go about doing that (this is my first dive into the ECU tuning pool)?

      thanks very much!

For the usb cable, i have one of these:

      http://www.ebay.com/itm/221264334822...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

You don't have to buy Holley's $50+ cable to be able to use the software. The only difference is you won't get the threaded end on the cable that holds it to the ECU. This generic one will still plug in fine, I just used a zip tie to hold it in place since nobody sees it anyways.

I'm using the V2 software, thats what came on the ECU and I haven't flashed the ECU yet to upgrade. V2 is working fine for me at the moment and unless you upgrade the firmware V3 or V4 won't work.
