      L92 question

Has anyone heard of an L92 w/o AFM (DOD)? I haven't seen or heard of many people using these in their swaps. Can someone enlighten me on these motors? There's one up for sale near me for what seems to be a decent price. Thanks for the help!

I have an L92 out of a 2007 Escalade. It came with VVT only, no DOD/AFM. The motor has since developed rod knock and I have replaced it with an LS3 based 427 short block. At this time I deleted the VVT because I think I will have to much torque as it is without adding anymore to the rear wheels. If I had kept the 376 based motor I would have kept the VVT.

I have had an L92 out of an 2008 Escalade and a GM L92 crate engine both with VVT but no DOD. We're actually running a Mast L99 (416) with VVT.

How does the L92 compare to the LS3?

Different cam, DOD, standard (vs. hollow stem valves), different pan, different intake, different balancer and accessory drive.

L92's also have different pistons, the L92 has valve relief pistons whereas the LS3 has flat top pistons. I'm currently converting an L92 into an LS3 to run it with a GEN III (Firebird/Camaro) ECM (0411 ECM). Kind of a chore since the crank must come out and have the 58X trigger replaced with a 24X trigger, also replacing the VVT phaser type 4X single bolt camshaft with an Ls9 1X 3 bolt camshaft. I have a spare L92 short block for sale if you're looking for one.
