Torch red looks a little too orange for my taste. Viper red has a little deeper look to it.

Here is a photo of my dad's Corvette in Viper red. And please, no one give me any crap because it is Pro Street.

My camaro is painted in Torch Red and I totally agree with 69LT1. It looks a little too orange when the sun is really shining. I would go for the viper red if you want a deep red. If you are looking for an orangish red than torch red is the one.

Viper Red is an awesome color, I went with it on my 78 Trans Am, but dont think that it is a "pure" red, because it will still have a bit of an orangey look in the right light. Dont get me wrong, I love the color and stand by the decision, but you probably should be aware of it. Also, the Viper Red is a 'thinner' color, so it will appear a bit different depending on what color you have under it. Dodge recomends what they call a red base coat under it (it really looks marroon). I tried several shades of undercoats with my before getting the mix right.

What you really should do is spend $20 get a small bit of paint mixed and paint it on your car. You can do a couple of colors side by side if you want and it should really help you pick. I did this and it really helped me out a bunch. Its just not worth saving the money on a test panel to spend thousands and decided that its just not quite what you wanted.

Having said that, in the interest of full disclosure, I have not even painted my car yet, other than the front fender a few times to get the color right. I needed it at this stage of my resto to cut in and paint areas that are tough to get to later and things like the firewall.

When I was helping my dad pick out the red for his car, I had the Viper red sprayed on a sample panel, and GM red used on the Blazer. Of the two, I liked the Blazer red better, but he liked the Viper red better. The GM color was a little deeper, more of a blood red, which I really liked.

I don't know if this is the right Torch Red, but it is the paint on my '03 GT. The color pops in the sunlight (there is a bit of orange... but not too much).

The thing I love is the color during the evening/sunset time. It turns this luscious dark red/dark orange. It is so freakin' seexxyy.

I really like the red that is on the Ford GT and there is an Audi color called "brilliant red" that is really nice as well. A deep, dark, arterial laceration kinda red.

I've owned both colors on two different cars, at the same time. Torch Red has more orange to it, looks more tomato colored under flourescent lights. Viper red was deeper, and more attractive in my opinion. I always got asked what color red my car was painted on the Viper red car.

I painted my 64 Chevelle Torch Red. There should be a pic or two in my VBGarage. It was the same paint code off of the 2000 corvette red. It looked killer with Dupont's Chroma Clear on it. It had a look of always being wet which I loved. The only problem I found was that in direct sunlight (here in CA it happens a lot) it blinds you a little and starts to look orange. If you stared directly at it for a while you'll start to see spots which was pretty cool.

I found that at dusk and in the evening there was no other true red that the Torch Red, although I will admit that during the day it had an orange tint to it under the right sunlight.

Hope this helps. Unfortunately I don't have any experience with the Viper Red to give you. Good luck with the choice. I always found choosing a color the hardest part of the build. At least you know you want it red ;)

Another option is a silver base with a red candy for a much richer look. I believe there was a killer looking 1st Gen camaro on here about a year ago that looked awesome. I think the pictures were just a shell that came right out of paint. Maybe someone can dig it up...
