What are you going to do with the car? Street drive? Track? Only occasional track? What is your driving style?

Sorry guys, Didn't know I got so many responses. So now Ill go through my replies in one reply.

      I'm mixed on this one!

Having access to a Fab Shop is different than living there. Don't know what it is going to take, but is 7 out of 10 on the scale going to be able to do it?

But it's interesting so I'll watch!

I actually own the fab shop and live here most of the time anyways. Might as well make it fun. I might be under rating my self, but it is hard to judge. I have built my own motorcycle from the ground up, My own english wheel, planishing hammer etc... the list goes on and on. While I am no Jesse James, I am trying to attain that level of ability. Maybe that can shed some light on my abilities.

There is some camber change as the suspension moves. This means that lowering it takes a lot of forethought. It can also be difficult to fit wide tires around the lower control arms. Do some research on BMW forums.

I never thought about this. Maybe I will take a wheel with me before pulling it out of the car...What are you going to do with the car? Street drive? Track? Only occasional track? What is your driving style?

The real reason for the car is to take cruises with my family (wife+2 kids) and go to shows and event. All street. I don't plan on taking it to the track, but I might get the urge. The goal is to build a solid reliable car to be able to drive anywhere I want to go. I live in Florida, so we can take trip all year long. What kind of driver.... well I have calmed down A LOT, to the floor every time I took off used to be my style and a stack of tickets to prove it, now.. well I drive fairly calm and relaxed. I do like to get into it every now and then.

In addition to the above installation questions, I would ask what the gear ratio is and if it is compatible with your intended use for the car. I assume the BMW had an OD transmission which may mean the rear gear will be problematic with a direct drive trans.

I am trying to find all of that out. I am awaiting some photos and such to try and determine exactly what it is. What do you mean by "problematic with a direct drive trans?

Thanks for all the interest and thoughts guys. I was/am still scratching my head on this one. If you all were looking for a specific rear, what would it be. (budget friendly).
BTW: This is my first pro touring build.
Prior build include a street rod with a 455 pontiac superduty and roll cage, 1977 trans am 400, 1971 chevelle pro street 396 for fun 383 for race, 1986 chevy c10 stepside blown 355, 1989 transam gta, 1982 ford pinto, and many many other.
