      Question LS2??

I'm looking at purchasing a vehicle that the owner says is a LS2 with a 4l70e tranny Says it came from a 2007. I don't know allot about the LS series engins so thats why I'm turning to the experts here. Did the LS2 6.0 come in the 07 Suburban or was it the 5.3. I researched it and I believe they did in the 2500 series. Also if it is what the potential of this engine, because I will want to upgrade it, or maybe use force induction of some sort to get more power, or it I buy the veh would it be smarter to just change the engine. Right now there is nothing done to the engine except it has been put in the veh. Below is a picture of the engine installed. I have a 68 CAmaro, but this combo is in a foxbody, notchback.

The LS2 and 4L70e combo was available in the Trailblazer SS. Which is what that looks like.

It is like any other LS2 with the exception of the truck style intake and maybe cam. Aluminum block, 243 cathedral style heads, etc...I think it was rated at 400HP in the TBSS.

So on something like this would one suggest to change the cam/heads/intake for a great improvement in HP, or go supercharge / or turbo?

All depends on what your power goals are, keeping in mind that super/turbo charging would decrease engine life. A cam and springs can be worth 30-40hp...Budget is also a factor...

Def undertand budget depends, but if its possible with this engine what would be the best route to get to the 600-650 HP or is it possible with this engine without having to change everything. Is it possible with heads/cams/intake or would it be best to go forced induction.

I honestly don't think you can get to that power level without some sort of forced induction, even with cam, heads, etc...And even if you did, it would probably be undrivable.

Thats what I was thinking just was not sure because I'm not knowledgeable with the LS motors/combo's so figured someone would know. SO figured if I went forced induction what woulb be the best route, and if I would need to change the heads/intake...

You said the engine may be from a trailbalzer, The owner just emailed me and said his buddy is who he bouth the veh from and intalled the engine, and was pretty sure it was a suburban, also said when they unlocked the it said 07 suburban. So I thought the 07 suburban had the 5.3, not the 6.0.....Anyone...

Full size trucks like the suburban could have had a 5.3 or 6.0 iron blocks. The LS blocks should have been in smaller vehicles like the CTS-V, Corvette or oddly enough the Trailblazer SS

The 6.0 is still an LS motor, just in iron form. The truck motors and the "True" LS motors are basically the same, but the truck motors are usually iron block, and they detune the motors a bit before stuffing them into trucks. The 6.0 could have definitely came out of a suburban, my neighbor has a suburban with a 6.0 and 4l70e. My dad has a Trailblazer SS, and that engine is a LS2, but they put the truck intake on it to give it some more bottom end grunt.

So if its the Iron 6.0, whats the best route to go to increase HP on it? leave it as is and just add some sort of forced induction or..

What kind of driving are you going to do with the car? Is there a reason you need 600 hp?

Well I currently have a 68 Camaro that is extremily nice, and I have invested about 70grand into. I love to go to the track with it and it runs 10.6 in the 1/4, but its way to much invested to take it further than where I'm at. So wanted to buy this notchbody mustang that already has the LS in it, and make it a street/track beast.

Technically these engines are called either GEN III or Gen IV...(now we have Gen V) small blocks. The LS1 was the original engine that appeared in the Corvette in 1997. In 1998, the F-bodies also got the LS1, and the trucks got various versions (4.8L, 5.3L, and 6.0L) of the Gen III engines. Different vehicles get different engines and they have different designations. For example, early trucks got the LQ4 and LQ9 6.0L iron block engines.

There is a laundry list of designations that spans all the engines from 1997 up to now.

Judging by the picture that you posted, I would say that there are alot of things that point to it NOT being a "LS2" from a Trailblazer

      1) 07' Trailrblazers used a specific p/s pump reservoir, with a long tubular neck, this doesn't have that (standard truck accessories)
      2) 07' Trailblazers had 90mm 4 bolt throttle bodies, this one has a 3 bolt 78mm throttle body and different style intake all together, that is a typical truck intake manifold
      3) 07' "Gen IV" LS2 engines have a front timing cover mounted cam sensor & lower block mounted knock sensors, this one is the Gen III setup with rear cam sensor and valley cover mounted knock sensors
      4) the engine pictured has earlier truck style coil packs, not the "LS2" style coil packs

Have you verified that this is even a aluminum block engine??

      hope this helps

No its a iron block, the guy says its the 6.0L from a 2007 Suburban and said that it what the computer said when they unlocked it. So I was basically asking at the beginning of this post if the suburban came with the 6.0 I thought they where 5.3. If they did how easy would it be to get this engine up to 600HP, and what was the best route.

Well it is definitely not a 07' engine!
try and post a pic of the pcm, reason being, if it is the older gen III large pcm with either a blue/ red or blue/ green plugs, it wouldn't "say" that it was from a later model vehicle, which used a different pcm (E38 58x wheel)
looks like a earlier gen III engine, you should try and verify what size ( cast into block drivers side front, behind alt / p/s steering bracket) then if it is a 6.0L, determine if it is a LQ4 or LQ9 (LQ4 has a press fit wrist pin dished piston, weaker rods (like LS1), where the LQ9 has a floating wrist pin and a flat top, w/ stronger connecting rods)

try and see the casting number on both the block and heads (block is in back of LH cyl head, heads are three digit on top corner of heads next to valve cover rail ie # 317)

With a goal of 600hp @ crank, is verify ambitious with a 6.0L w/ cathedral port heads, without some type of FI

until you find out exactly what the engine is, it is impossible to move forward

If you haven't bought this Mustang yet, and were only looking at buying it for the engine, I would look at other options

      Jeff
