Different intake styles

So in the quest for more knowledge I have been reading up on different Air/fuel delivery systems. From what I have read it is desired that all 8 cylinders (just assuming we are talking v8s) should receive the same amount of air. I have read about having a 4 pattern cam with more duration for the outer 4 cylinders. There is having 2 smaller 4-barrel carbs or there is a stack injection system or just fuel injection.



In theory I don't believe a 4 pattern cam would be the best answer, because why would you add duration to something when you could add duration to all the other ones, have a different intake system and make overall better power. Mainly I was curious as to if there was a proven set up as to what the absolute best intake setup or if they are all about the same. I don't know too much and this was the only place I figured Id run into people who could help me out in my quest for knowledge.
