These bumpers are just held up by stands, trying to figure out how I want to them to flow, angle, and mount. Had to do a little trimming of the fenders, but no biggie. When I am done I plan on having about 1/8" of a gap from the bumpers to the body.

Also checked out the wheel size and its gonna look good. A little wheel tuck looks good. Fronts I will probably go with a 17" wheel with maybe a 30-35 side wall instead of 45RZ/18's in the rear.

Front Bumper is a 70-72 Mustang front bumper
Rear bumper is a 68 Shelby Mustang bumper
      Rear tires are 295/45RZ/18
Wheels are American Racing 18x11 with 5.5" offset (those will be here this coming Wednesday)

      Today (4/23/2014)

I had received the wheels from Fedex, and my daughter helped me open the boxes up. I think she was more excited than I was

      Pic after they where mounted

And up next to the car. Going to look great. Wheel will tuck a bit in the rear.

Need to order brakes, and axles. Then should be about time to back half the car. Then start working on the front suspension by Chris Alston.

It looks like you have your ducks in a row for a nice neat build, with some distinguishing touches. That 71-72 Mustang (not Mach 1, though) bumper will look great on there, all snugged up. The Shelby tail lights have been done a lot by now, so I personally would do something else there, though I don't have a specific suggestion. I will definitely subscribe to your thread.

      Tony,

Thanks, I appreciate the correction on the bumper, I couldn't remember when I wrote it -- so I put mach 1.

I know the shelby tail light panel has been done a lot but couldnt figure out what I wanted to do -- So I ended up with this. No turnin back

I look forward to more suggestions and critique from you and others. I was expecting more replies, but then again I am not really far into the build or doing anothing worth commenting on yet lol.

Here is a few other pictures from last Thursday -- I have been busy with work.

      Enjoy

There's no accounting for the lack of response. Some build threads get a lot of attention on here, and others get less. You might get more response when you get further along in your build. (shrug)

On the tail lights, did you consider getting some Mustang tail lights? Maybe from a 71-73? Don't know if they'd fit, but it would go well thematically with your front bumper. Regardless, your original idea for the Shelby tail lights isn't a bad one, and when it's all finished up, I might have to admit I'm wrong.

I look forward to your continuing updates.

It might help if the title of the thread actually meant something to more people (I can change it if you want). I had no idea it was Maverick until I looked inside...

Also, the wheels look dated and the rear tires are too tall. We all have our preferences....You wanted replies...LOL

Sure, I'd love to change it. Maybe unorthodox Maverick grabber?

Well see on the tail panel. If Iever ewanted to change it it would be easy to do, and easy to respray as the tail panel will be matte black.

As for the tires / wheels will be stuffed inside the wheel well. About 1/3 of the tire will be stuffed

Yes, I understand that, but that tire is 28" tall and just looks giant! I used to run that tire on my GTO when I first built it in 2002, but a GTO is a way bigger car.

my .02 move the license plate to where the fuel fill is. put the exhaust out the center of the car where plate cut out in the bumper is. tuck bumpers..( and those rear wheels) remake current tail light trim / bezels longer out of aluminum to meet or surround / incorporate the plate. there are too many mavericks running around with Shelby tail light panels,
just an idea..i'm a fan of the early mavericks nice too see one getting some love.

What's "unorthodox" about it? I just hope you don't end up cutting this car up into little pieces, and scrapping it, like your last one....

Unorthodox, just being different and standing out from most Mavericks, innovative tweaks in the car that will stand out from every other build of Mavericks.

I like to. Be different and make my own bandwagon for people to jump on, everyone has mustangs, cameros etc. They're all great cars but way to many people have done them.

This car won't be cut up. I used my other one for a parts car you could say. Also with my other car I didn't have a plan. This car I have chosen a plan and will stick to it. Other car was oh let's do this... Nah nvm. Oh look let's try this... Etc.

That's not a bad idea at all, I'll have to stick my plate up there an see how it looks.

      72 buick skylark
twin-turbo fuel injected buick 350..perhaps stroked to 370 in the works!

I am not following what you're asking as far as rear kit? chassis? suspension?

Backhalf is a Chassisworks Eliminator 2
4 Link kit is custom kit from multiple suppliers. Most information is in first post.

Dave, Sorry -- Earlier I read your post wrong.

I plan to extend the nose of the car a few inches to accommodate the 70-72 mustang bumper/custom billet grill and head lights I will be using.
68 Mustang Rear bumper will have slight changes to flow with the body more naturally. The rear spoiler will be will be a little more bold than the stock grabber spoiler. I have mocked up a 2005 Mustang dash in the car, and will be building the dash to be more modern. There will not be another maverick like it. Thus getting to the "unorthodox"

I just want one bad ass show winning maverick!!

I think the maverick has great potential. I like the taillight panel as is.. There is beauty in simplicity.

Picked up a grabber hood. Front lip is rusted out, but not worried as I will be extending the hood by about 3"
