The fit on the front is all I could go with the 9" wide wheel, and still have enough room for suspension movement. A 8" wheel would have been easier to fit a 245x40x18 , but I wanted the widest lip possible

I'm in your camp. Wider wheels look better than wider tires.

You mentioned that going larger in the rear would cause "more rubbing". Are they actually rubbing now?

I believe I noticed slight rubbing once when pulling in my driveway over the curb at a large angle.

That's what you call nailing it my friend. You've already stated you couldn't go any wider on the front and now you're saying it only rubs under extreme circumstances in the rear.

Yes, I'm pretty happy with the fit (Only have about 1000 man-hours measuring). This is the 5th set of wheels I've had on the car, I think these are "keepers". They look a lot better in person, by the way.

I just got back from a local car show. These darn people have suddenly started bugging me about selling it!

Yes after a bunch of stupid and costly mistakes, I'm a lot wiser.

Back in 1980, my first set of wheels were 14 x 8 reverse offset cragar S/Ss in the rear with 70 series tires in the front. The front tires were taller than the 60s in the rear and in retrospect, it was hideous.

      Now I'm looking at 295/40/18s and 245/45/17s on a 69 stang. We've come a long way.

I'm wondering if the same size will fit my 71 Cuda. 18x9.5" 5" bs and 17x8 4.5bs

Not if a Cuda's rear wheelwell is similar to my 69 stang, which is remarkably close to a 69 Camaro.

That's not enough backspacing for these cars when running those size wheels and tires.
