      Help!!!

Will a 285/40/18 fit on the rear of my 69 camaro with roled lips and custom backspacings??? about ready to order my wheels and tire package and I really need to know. Has anybody done this. cross section is 11.4 on the tire and I am running an 18x10 with a hotchkis 1.5 inch drop. thanks for the help - Garrett.

The experience I had was with a 9.5" rim, 5.5" backspace and a 285 tire. You can measure your space with a tape measure and a straight edge to be sure.

I can't really comment on 10" wide rims. My guess would be 5 3/4" back space and some wheel well massaging.

just did some measuring and i got a little scared with clearence. so I came up with this setup. 275/35/18 in the rear(25.6 x 10.9)...235/40/17(24.4 x 9.4) in the front. front is dropped 2 inches and the rear is dropped 1.5 inches. what do you think? Is this a winning combo?

I have a 1969 Camaro 285/40/18 tire at the rear with stock fender wells. Just need to nail the backspacing. I did not do the install, purchased the car like that. You can see how it looks and determine if you like it. No rubbing whatsoever.

I put the following combination on my '69 that has a 2" drop, rolled rear lips and limits on the front turning radius:

      18 x 10 w/ 5 5/8" BS and 275x35x18 Nitto 555 rear
      18 x 9 w/ 5 1/8" BS and 235x40x18 Nitto 555 front

The combination fits real good, but I measured about 5 dozen times to make sure it would all fit.

How much space do i want between tire and body panel? I have 12" side to side and the overall width of the tire I want to use is 11.1". Is that enough room?

That's some advanced level fitment. How about some pics?

      My 18" SLX45 Wheels

Here are the SLX 45 Billet Specialties Wheels. I couldn't sleep for 2 weeks trying to decide which wheels to order. I think they turned out nice. What do you think?

      Gary,

That is an awesome '69! I think you made a great choice with the wheels.

Thanks guys. It sure was hard to make the decision. I had narrowed it down to a short list of 5 wheels over the last year. I hated to spend almost $3K and not get the "perfect" set. Actually I call these my "pain and suffering wheels". I got about $3K from a car wreck (a teen pulled out in front of my "99 Lumina) for lost wages and pain and suffering!!! They made my neck feel much better!!

What do you think, could you go with a 245 and 295 without issues?

I don't see why not, it looks like there is enough room. 10mm wider.

      245 & 295?

Well, a lot depends on the tire brand and your particular car's sheetmetal. On the back, I have 1/2" clearance on the inside and I can put all my fingers between the outside of the tire and the fender lip. Going bigger would produce more rubbing. The fit on the front is all I could go with the 9" wide wheel, and still have enough room for suspension movement. A 8" wheel would have been easier to fit a 245x40x18 , but I wanted the widest lip possible
